Hi,
I'm trying to find reasonably priced livery yards near southampton or portsmouth, but i'm having difficulty with getting quotes etc. and even finding them.
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm looking for DIY livery or working livery if necessary. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
xx

you might need to try looking out of the cities, try the surranding villages, you have choosen avery urban place to look which could mean there won't be alot of grazing have u looked in the friday ad or googled it.

Erm Rozzels in Durley; Quob Stables in Durley; Pinkmead in Botley; Mayhill Stud in Droxford; lots of places around Swanmore/Bishops Waltham area like Mark Riley's etc - yellow page it.

Since you are looking for DIY I think it would be wise to narrow down your search...I say this from experience. Having moved to the 'South coast' back in the summer I took a while to settle and had a good look round lots of livery’s/areas. I would agree with GwenLP there are some very urban areas. I started by living in Southsea and not a place for keeping horses for miles!

In the end (as someone on here pointed out it can take hours on the M27 some nights!) Are you already living in the area? If you let us know a smaller patch (Ie what junction of the M27!) I can let you know some of the yards I recently visited. In the end I have settled for the edge of the New Forest and I'm very pleased!!

You could also try http://www.nfed.co.uk/

Knowing who now runs it, that is no great surprise on the turnout front.

Yes I looked here and found the same problem with turnout - horse ratio to acres - RUBBISH.

Try the local tack/feed stores. They usually have notice boards with all sorts of ads for livery. Also speak to the staff they are a wealth of local info. Try Hampshire Saddlery at Botley Mill, Longacre feeds, Kitnocks and Shedfield Equestrian near Wickham. They should all be in phone book. I used to be at livery on the East side of Southampton but have since moved neds to the New Forest which is brilliant hacking.

Pinkmead are pretty good. When i was at uni at Southampton University (the proper one!!!) we used their horses and the lady who runs the yard Mandy, for our Riding Comps. The pricing is ok but the hacking is not that great but they have great facilities and quite a few BSJA shows and unaffiliated and Quob is not too far away! they have a website and will tailor your horse to your needs! I would of taken my beast down there as I really thought it was rather a friendly place!

Pinkmead was fantastic, I kept my horse there when i was at uni (the gimpstitute!) I miss everyone tonnes but do visit alot! I was able to keep a horse there on a part time job so its not expensive. they do have restricted grazing in the winter which isnt too bad and yeah hacking is rubbish..you can have a little gallop around the farm though!

Only issue I had was the riding school!

Thank you guys for all your help, I have been considering Pinkmead, but working livery, however i'm not too sure how it works... with you getting to ride as well, and how many hours does my pony have to do?.
