I say livery yard but I mean anyone who is not allowed to make the decision for themselves as to when they are allowed out in the summer fields.

Is anyone out 24/7 yet? The rain is just non stop here in Derbyshire. I'm seriously wondering if they'll every get out this year!!

I make my own decisions and my horses went out in February, March and April 24/7 except for the bust one.

They all came back inside in May and that's where they are now.

They trash more grass than they eat in this weather, it's just not worth wrecking ground at this time of year. The cattle went out and came back in again too.

i recently moved yards so my mare can be out 24/7 all summer, actually all winter if i want! she is so much happier and our fields are great at the moment!

Fortunately we are on the chalk,so drainage is no problem. The altitude is quite high so grass grows late but frankly this is a blessing. it means that the horses are always a bit ahead of the grass and this helps avoid colic on lush fresh grass. The yard feeds plenty of good hay so the horses dont have a problem.

I have a few liveries, they are out 24/7 it is very wet but at this time of year the land can recover and I do not want to be mucking out all summer as well as winter.

If it was September and this wet I would be keeping them in over night as it would just be getting worse into the winter.

On clay land it is not well draining but the horses need time out and as far as I am concerned the well being of the horses is the priority not how perfect your fields look.

My lot are still in there winter fields at the moment as they will trash more grass than they eat with the weather being so wet , it's just not worth wrecking the summer fields and then moaning about it being trashed but fingers crossed they should start to go out in the summer fields in a few weeks weather permitting.

Same here (apart from the cattle bit :))

I'm in Derbyshire too and mine aren't out 24/7 yet either :(
We have to wait for the YO to say they can go out but to be honest i wouldn't want them out yet anyway with this rain - my field would be trashed in days.
Roll on sunshine! They need to be out for June cos i'm going on holiday!

Yes but I'm still having the TB in on a night, only because she's getting too dam fat, I've had to section the field off to limit their grazing.

Our fields seem to drain quite well so we are lucky in that respect, although we do have muddy gateways.

Mines out but there's only him and his field mate out over night. The other 30 + horses are still being stable over night. They can be left out but no one seems to want too.

ours can go out 24/7 but in their winter field, won't move to summer grazing until dry. I am making the most of the short window I can have with the laminitic one as once they move he will need to come in each day (even with strip grazing).

Thanks all! I'm particularly champing at the bit because she's on loan and the loaner is giving her back as she's buying her own. I can't keep her at that same yard as they have a waiting list and the place I am moving her to won't let me come until theirs are out for the summer. So I've been waiting and waiting and the blinking rain just won't stop!!! My loaner is being good about holding onto her but I'm panicking as time is getting on and we seem no closer to getting them out. Sorry, rant over lol.

Ooh FF where in Chesterfield are you?

Mine are in during the day, always are this time of year, mainly to stop them getting overweight, the risk of laminitis is high atm because of the weather, the grass is growing like crazy!

Mine are all out now.
In fact, mine were out 6 weeks ago - but having had BF on box rest, we've just re-started going out again.

Mad livery is up in the top field 24/7 - trashing it  but owner is treading in divots daily - she'd rather he was out than in now (and I agree)

My 2 are in their spring paddocks & won't be moving till the ground dries in any other paddock, luckily this paddock is 80+% on sand, so unless they hang around the gate, they are not doing much damage.

No plans to bring anything in AT ALL now (illness/lameness not withstanding tho) till October at earliest, pref not till getting on for xmas :)

I'm the YO, and I make the decision.......Ours went out 24/7 mid March, but they came back in 2 weeks ago (in at night, out in the day)............looking at the forecast as long as it stays dry they should be back out 24/7 this time next week. Tbh it has been a pain BUT wow have we got loads of grass now :)

No not yet. Bit too wet at night and rugs just get soaked through with the heavy rain. If the weather was dry I'd want my horse out at night, but we (friends and I) are looking at the third or fourth week of May before we change over.

Have to admit that If my horse could manage it I'd want him out 24/7 for six days a week which is what I used to do years ago, then come in for the day to snooze to give him a little break and back out again that night or leave him in the night before a show if I have an early start. But he is a colicky horse, always has been and too much grass sends him over the edge.

Nopes, like a lake at the mo, mine would pine to be in any way. Luckily we have a walker so they all get out on the walker a couple of times a day if the owner wants at no extra charge.

no we're on winter grazing but have other fields which we can use!. Going to summer grazing once hay's been cut (be around august time I imagine).

We do what we like, but nothing out overnight yet, it's just too wet I think. Mine is a fatso so never gets 24hr turnout anyway though :-(

Crikey, I can't imagine still doing the winter slog in the middle of may! Mine didn't even come in this year as weather was not bad at all. The ones that were in went out in march.

Mine normally live out unrugged all year................but having good doers, I'd rather have them in during the day with the grass shooting up. Far too risky, I quite enjoy mucking out :)

Ours are still in and it is driving me insane!!! I know they are in for good reason and wouldn't want her out at night in all this rain and she doesn't do living out in bad weather very well but normally she is out end of april at the latest!!
All this mucking out and buying bedding/hay is driving me mad... Normally I would have started saving for next winter by now :(

I'm a YO so i make the decisions but for my liveries - they were allowed out 24/7 on the 23rd March and have been out ever since, yep we have had a bit of rain but thankfully we drain really well. Horses will be out 24/7 if the owners wish until november/december time.

yep she went out at the beginning of april. im brining her in at nights now because shes ate all the grass in her pens, she could have more but a very long story ...
