Livery yard Question - Time

I'm lucky as I live where my horse is on livery :) although even before I had her in other places I go up the yard twice a day, morning then night. On average I spend 2-3 hours a day on the yard doing everything horse related chores, riding etc. I spend longer if I end up chatting to other liveries :)

My horse is on part livery so I go once a day. I usually spend a couple of hours there. When I was on DIY I would go up twice and would spend around 40-60 mins in the morning and a coupe of hours in the evening.

go up twice a day, morning and evening. at the moment they are living out so no mucking out, but riding more. on average 1-2 hours in the morning, depending if fitting in a ride before work, then 1-3 hours after work. sometimes back up 1 more time to bring in my friends ponies who are on restricted turn out. if i can only go up once, my friend checks mine for me at the other time and feeds in the winter.

I pay someone to feed him weekday mornings. I usually spend 2-3 hours at the yard in the evening, and at the weekends I make my lunch and go out on my bike or for a run from the yard, so I'm up there all day in effect. Sunday I usually go up in the morning and then again in the evening.

At my old yard, I could easily spend 6+hrs up there, until it went down hill, then I'd maybe spend 20mins. Now they're closer, it varies a lot, sometimes I just pop in to make sure all 8 legs are still working and other times I've spent a few hours.

Only had one horse, would be an hour and a half in the evening (he was on part livery). I could do all my jobs and ride for half an hour in that time. I'd either ride or groom though, it depended on the weather, as if it looked a 'bit dodgy' I'd groom instead of ride, because I didn't want to have a battle and/or fall off as there wouldn't be anyone around. Work let me go home earlier some days and I'd stay a bit longer then, as I have two dogs and they would also need walking in the evening, and one cannot ignore OH or he will get shirty, and the first thing he'd say would be 'you said you wouldn't spend all your time with that horse, and now look...'.

Hope to get a nice sane horse and then stretch my time or make up for it with hours and hours of messing at the weekend!

Wish I had as much time to spend as some of you :( I am on DIY grass livery so only go up once a day, but i'm lucky in that the YO lives on sight so she checks and hays/feeds in the morning for me.

I do Open University as well as a full time job so sometime 30 minutes is all I can spare, but normally an hour to a couple of hours in the week, but much longer at the weekends when I can.

Im on part livery so only go in the evenings (apart from Wednesday as have a sharer) and I generally get to the yard at 1740 and I try and be home (fifteen mins down road) for 1930 but if i go on a long ride its normall 2000!

I can spend hours down there but it depends how much of an argument I want when I get home :p

Totally depends on what I'm doing in a day. Sometimes I don't get up there at all (don't worry, my friend checks on them those days!) and other days, like today, I was up there for 6 hours.

I'm at a private stables with three horses, one is mine, one is my friends and the other is a retired mare who we look after for someone else. I have three days a week where I have the full day free, so those are the days I tend to get poo picking, water trough cleaning etc done along with riding and giving them a proper good grooming. The other days I only have a couple of hours to spare as I either need to take my three year old up with me (and he drives me demented and I don't get a thing done lol) or ride in the two hours I have while he is at nursery.

All of this will no doubt change when they come in for the winter though, but last year we had a good system going. My friend would put them out on her way to work in the morning, then I would go up later and muck out etc then bring in and feed for the night, so we will probably do something similar this year.

So yeah.. the point is (after all that!) is it just depends, but usually at least two hours a day. :)

Weekday mornings: About 45 minutes to feed his block, turn out, muck out, fill haynets, fill water buckets and make up a tea.

Weekday evenings: I usually get to the yard between about 6.15-6.45 depending on what time I leave work & traffic. I'm usually home by 8/8.30 if I ride or 7/7.30 if I just groom, refill haynets, skip out & put to bed.

Weekends can vary what I'm doing. I try to spend a good few hours one end of the day, but I may not go twice a day if I have other plans - I pay for YM assistance services.

I am lucky to have my two horses on my own yard 2 mins from home

I work 8-6 so In the summer is usually half an hour in a morning, then 1-3 hours at nite.

In the winter i cant ride as to dark so is usually an hour in a morning to muck out and turn out and an hour at night to fetch in ,groom change rugs and feed :)

I spend all day at the yard saturdays and sundays all year round :) x

Exactly this except the sharer part

Got two horses and a pony and I'm on DIY. I also work at the yard so look after them around my job but probably spend on average 1 hour with them in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening. On my days off I can easily spend 7-8 hours per day with them.
