Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and new to London. I have recently moved here and my priority is to move my boy across asap.

I am living in East London and ideally looking for something that is no further than a 30 - 40 minute drive from Stratford/Bow direction.

I am basically a happy hacker, not competitive in the slightest but I do enjoy popping over the odd fence for fun.

I am looking for a livery yard that has all year turnout (essential), good hacking and is friendly with knowledgeable managers. We have been spoiled in our last yard and I know it has set a high bar to meet. I'm not interested in riding schools.

I visited Lee Valley and although the staff seemed great and the distance was perfect, the limited turnout was a deal breaker. I think i would also prefer something smaller so that there is not an overflow to use the school in the winter months.

I had a look at everyones helpful comments on previous similar posts and think the following may be worth checking out:

Mote End Farm
Cacket's Farm Livery Yard
Church Farm
Bromley Common Liveries
Threshers Equestrian

Does anyone have any further suggestions or think that the above may not suit me?

Thank you so much in advance for your help. I am a bit lost because I am so new to the country (previously in Ireland!) and want to find the right place to save my friend the trauma of moving around lots - his happiness is defo the priority!!

I used to live pretty much next door to Lee Valley, but chose not to keep my horse there partly due to turnout but also due to the attitude of staff who were extremely rude about me to someone I was good friends with, considering I was a potential client I thought it was very unprofessional. Rant over, sorry.
I ended up keeping him at Aldersbrook, wanstead. They do turnout everyday, although for a limited time, but better than nothing. They are very friendly and the hacking is pretty good. It's not fancy but the staff really care for the horses and they are very accommodating.
You will probably find better turn out the further out of London you go. But if you want something very central Aldersbrook is a good option.

I don't think you're being realistic OP. Land is at such a premium you'll find 24/7/365 turnout doesn't exist unless its an overcrowded field of mud where the horse will starve. You'll find it hard to get all year turnout of any duration, unless you travel much further out. If you can get half a day turnout every single day that's good for London.

I would have thought looking east towards essex is probably the best place to look. It's not an area I know but there's a Facebook group called Essex & surrounding areas livery which may be worth looking at or posting for suggestions.

Oh my word you are my doppelgänger! Am also Irish came to London to work and brought he horse over! Granted it took me nearly 4 years to get him here as it just always seemed such hassle and the yards weren't as good at home! But hey he is here now and after a bad experience on one yard have found him the perfect yard. We are at Threshers and its fantastic. It would be 35-40 mins from Stratford driving I reckon although maybe quicker as its just off m11. Good turn out every day and a nice small bunch of people. YM is super nice and treats horses like her own. It is full livery only- which is what wanted. Private message me if you want any more info. What i will say is if you want turn out you need to go further out- the immediate essex/london area hasnt enough land for alot if turnout. threshers isn't the closest yard to me but the service makes it worth the distance.

Thanks everyone. I'll message you for more details elliefiz.

I will check out Aldersbrook and the FB page too, thanks.

Sugar and Spice, I just want more than the 2 hour turnout that some yards offer. In winter, he'll be stabled at night time. Just want him out during winter during day time to stretch his legs and not be cooped up. 24hr turnout during summer or for part of summer would be nice though.

Message me for any info you need - i spent a very long time trawling round Essex and know most of the yards as a result. Turnout is the main issue with most- no seperate winter and summer turnout so grass never gets time to recover and alot of places restrict it to only a couple of days a week when the weather turns bad. Once you move down the m11 towards Harlow/ Stansted there is more opportunity for good turnout or out towards Ingatestone/ chelmsford area. I know a yard out Ongar direction that has a vacancy and provides a very high quality of service but is a competition yard so not sure if thats what you are after! What I will say is there is some amazing hacking to be had if you get the right yard- better than ive ever had in Ireland!

Thank you, Criso. I have requested to be added to the group so I can post!

Has anyone heard of Hastingwood Livery? They sound lovely, I may check them out too.

All advice very much appreciated - I am missing my four legged friend desperately, so the sooner I find him a new happy home, the better!!

Update: I visited 3 yards today and fell in love with Mote End Farm. Although larger than I thought I would have liked and no 24/7 turnout in the summer, it is horsey paradise! The only thing lacking is an indoor but the staff were very knowledgeable, accessible and the yard wasn't too busy despite it's size. Very impressed!!

Think I'll check some Epping direction yards next. It would be best for my pocket if I could find something a bit cheaper and closer...
