Does your yard offer services (to those on DIY) for T/O B/i rug changing, feeding, etc...

if so what is the rate you pay?.

I am interested as I am on assisted DIY and I am seriously struggling to afford to stay where I am with the way prices are and the restricted times to t/o and b/i means I cannot get to yard in am to turnout 45mins to get there t/o and get to work through traffic is not good.
they have to be brought in now at 2pm so have to pay for this too and I am seriously struggling with it all so much so it's really stressing me out.

I am ending up paying about £80 a week and thats just DIY.

I have found a new place that is cheaper and really want to go now but I have to try and find the money now to move from my current place.

On the plus side is everyone at current place is so lovely and friendly, but also the hacking isn't great either! so I have to think about this too....
1st time in 2years of having a horse again i'd forgotten how stessful it can get at times

move yards -its ment to be fun not stressy! maybe the YO at your new yard would move the horse for you and you could pay for it on payday cos youd be saving money through the month being there, and theyd have an extra livery? im on a part livery (YO brings in at night) with my 3 and i put out for 3 other liveries and change rugs etc ,i dont charge anything!:)

Wow how on earth are you paying £80 per week??? they must be some very expensive services!!

Id move, it sounds like your being ripped off big time

I pay £50 wk for weeks rent, x2 hay and x1 shavings.
Then I have to pay £2.50 for every t/o and b/i during the week and I have to pay both am and pm as I can't get to the yard with the time restrictions.
then it's £4.50 t/o b/i at weekends.

Its just getting me down a bit really... it's going to be awful leaving where everyone is lovely and have made some lovely friends in the time of being there, even the YO is lovely which is making it even more stressful having to give my notice.

Goodness! Yes I think those charges are way too steep! Especially if the horses have to come in at that time which, for anyone working, is completely impossible! I am at a DIY yard and we do assisted etc. We charge £1 to turnout/in and will change one rug for this too. Anymore rugs or boots are extra. Mind you - fields are close by so it doesn't take much time at all!

My yard charges £3 bi/to.... £10 for day care.

I think £50 livery is steep.... I pay £30 a week and there is no way I use £20 worth of hay/bedding!

its £32.50 DIY livery
£10.00 a week for 2 bales of hay
£7.50 for a bag of shavings

I use 2 bales a week (or always have 2 bales) as I never know when he might have to stay in and as they are on restricted t/o already he only gets 2/3 sections a night.

Wow that's outrageous! I pay £30 p/w for DIY including unlimited straw and 5 flaps of a day, small yard with unlit school and good off road hacking! It's £5 p/w for 7 day turn out plus rug change if needed and another £5 p/w if I want him bringing in!

Where are you? I'm on a lovely yard, £30 per week DIY, with a bit of off road hacking, ind turnout, indoor school, outdoor school, jump paddock and they are really helpful and friendly, YO will sell you hay (big round bales are about £55 and last me about 5 weeks). Services are £3, but there are no restrictions as to when you bring in or turnout...my boy is still living out. I'm at Thorpe Le Soken. 24 hr CCTV and its all locked up and alarmed at night, so I never worry.

On our yard we dont do DIY so not quite the same but to put it into perspective,
our part is £65 pw which includes 5 days a week muck out, 7 days a week/ turnout bring in, 7 days a week feeding and rug changes etc. But does not include muck out on weekend, and hay, bedding and hard feed. We sell hay for £12 pw for as much as they want, or residents are welcome to buy in their own small bales from other places. We charge £5 pw for straw or they can bring their own shavings.
If they want care on weekend we charge £10 a day, and a couple of years ago our part was £60 with no turnout bring in on weekend, the extra £5 for the weekend is this.

We are based in East Yorks. Oh and they have 365 days a year turnout, post and rail fencing, a rubber silica sand menage, jumps, round pen, auto waters, off road hacking, 3 qualified instructors on site, etc

I don't think it's the services prices that sounds steep - it sounds like £50/week for DIY sounds extortionate, especially since you're paying for hay and bedding on top! Depending on where you were, £50 all inclusive sounds more like it, then services on top....

In North Wales, I pay £60 all in mon to fri, I buy feed but manager gives according to my feed chart. Ad lib haylage and 2 shavings(small bags tho) at weekends we do all ourselves, we all muck in and help each other. Good off road hacks, lots quiet lanes, I keep my carriage there in a shed, and lorry parking free. large school, smaller one for lunging and children, 12 horses and ponies on yard.Helpfull manager.10 mins from home in a car.

OP - Glad to see you thinking of moving, the best thing to do is vote with your feet if you are not happy....

To some of the responses - Livery yards are the main, a business, a profit will be made, why not?

Time is money, and I'd be charging too....

I think you should move. If I need it I can pay £1 for t/o. On top of £25 pw livery. Then 1 shavings (pw) at £7.50 and 1 hay at £5 last around 2 weeks with haylage which is £10 for 2 weeks worth. So effectively I pay £40 pweek.

For £80 you could get full livery round here! I did used to pay £40per week solely for livery but at DIY that's very expensive. Unless you're getting top of the range things to use.

Sounds par for the course, I pay £30 for stable with a turnout, and assistance to bring in.
Haylage is £10 and he needs shavings which is £7.50, so that adds up to £47.50. I have to add on £7,00 for hard feed and extras.

Hi Im on a DIY yard. We actually help each other with turning out and bringing in so therefore it doesnt cost anything to do it.

Is there anywhere you can move to DIY and then buddy up with some of the exisiting liveries to have things done i.e. every other day rota basis for bringing in/ turning out horses as favours?

Wow that sounds really expensive, certainly you could get part (5 day) livery for that in my area (kent) and it would include hay/feed/bedding.

Have you considered that?

I had a chat to YO last night about it and I can get up tp t/o in am's now and then on a couple of nights I don't ride she can bring in and finish off for extra 50p on top of the b/i price.
saving me £12.50 a week.
and I am changing my sports 2.2 engine to a 1.4 OUCH lol... so I can accomodate being there.

I really love the yard and the people there, but YO also did say that she understands if I have to leave but doesn't want me to.... which is lovely to hear too.

The yard I had in mind though apparently isn't too nice by all accounts so have to rethink that one, and I put a large deposit down to hold a stable that is being emptied tomorrow.

I'm in Colchester at the moment, I just looked up where you are and its bit too far for me

Just to put it into perspective for you, I live down South, which means I pay double as standard by the sounds of things. For £80 a week, I get full livery Mon-Fri (feed, muck out, rug changes, turn out, bring in, feed, put to bed), Sat-Sun is DIY, but if they are in at night they will be fed in the morning for you. Feed, hay and bedding is included in the price. Turnout is 24/7 all year round if you want it, but at the moment they are out at 8am in by about 4pm (unless your horse lives out 24/7. During the summer Mon-Fri poo-picking is done for you, at the w :)eekend you do around one small barrow a day, takes about 10 mins. Outdoor school, floodlights, owner on site, amazing hacking. I think I am very lucky!

If we need horses brought in/out or poo picking done at weekends, we pay about £2.50 a day. But to be honest, we usually sort something out between us. I work Sundays, another lady works Saturdays, so we sort it between us, i.e. on a Staurday I will T/O & B/I hers and do 2 barrows of poo-picking, then she does the same on a Sunday :)

Long story short, you are paying too much! :D
