I am about to move to the area south-east of London, I don't know yet where exactly. My workplace is in Weybridge and while I'm searching for a flat for myself I'm also looking for a livery yard for my horse. Now I was wondering if there are any differences in prices say whether I'm east of the M25 or west of the M25 e.g.. To be honest I have no idea whatsoever what sort of prices to expect. I've been looking at flats in several places: Woking, Weybridge, Epsom, Croydon, Surbiton. Are there any good livery yards close to any of those towns and what sort of money do they charge for DIY or assisted livery?
I'm grateful for any information.

Most livery yards in or around London cost a bit more than further out. My friend lives in south London and pays 180 pm for assisted DIY. I use to pay 320 pm for full livery which did not include rug changes or turnout. I now pay 200 pm for a field for my herd but have to travel 1 1/2 hours to get there. If you drive I would say have a good look around.

There are plenty of yards around Woking & Epsom. There are a couple of yards in/ around Weybridge.

In Surbiton you are only a small detour from Claygate/ Cobham where you will find a few yards.

Couple of suggestions of places to look...

Woking-
Bridley Manor

Weybridge-
Weybridge Equestrian Centre
Abrook Farm
South Wood Manor

Cobham (5/ 10 minutes from Weybridge)
Lodge Liveries
Pachesham Equestrian Centre (Competion Centre)

Worth also seraching in and around Ripley & Chertsey if your office is in Weybridge.

Property (buying and renting) & Livery in Woking will be cheaper than Weybridge/ Surbiton as there is more land and you are further away from London.

Very quick reply as I am busy at work, but I live in Surbiton, and have kept horses in Weybridge & Woking so if you have any specific questions just ask.

I'm another SE Londoner! :)

I'm currently riding in Kent and plan to keep my horse there when I get it! Livery yards are a bit more expensive around here, though many have very good facilities! Check the BHS website, they have a register of all the approved yards around your area :)

http://www.bhs.org.uk/Riding/Find_A_Livery_Yard/BHS_Approved_Yards.aspx

There are loads of yards around Kent (Bexley in particular), a couple around Bromley, loads in Surrey.. It all depends on what you're looking for, what kind of money you're prepared to spend, and what facilities you need! xx

thats is around where i keep my horse there are loads and loads of yards i can recomend a few

epsom
hurstfields - all livery options from grass to full, two outside sand schools, full set of jumps, cross country course off road hacking onto epsom downs. good yard

godstones - very profeshinal (sorry can spell very well) part and full livery with off road hacking bit pricey

Banstead
yewlands - diy outdoor sand school, outdoor jumping arena the turnout isnt that good though too many horses not enough grazing some lovly people up there and some not so lovly ones

brakes/fairlawn (peeps call it either) - dont know much but it is diy with some assistance and is a really large yard about 40 horses they have loads of empty boxes

HUNTERSFIELD !!!!- INDOOR SANDSCHOOL with new waxed sand serface, used to keep my horse there, all year turnout, all livery options although diy is assisted so feed bedding hay is all provided with a turnout or bring in (not grass livery and although get on yard owners good side and she will let them stay out over night if they wont destroy fences etc) very good yard, yard owner is competent with all types of horses from younsters to the elderly and a good rider

fairholm - diy might have assisted option, outdoor sandschool, small indoor, bit fussy about turn out via bring in at certain times during winter that sort of stuff

and loads of smaller livery yards in that area aswell

depending on what u want pm me and im sure i can help if looking in these sorts of areas i have keept my horses around about here for years now renting a small private yard and all my boxes full otherwise would invite u to come have a look i could take u on a tour of some of the yards

I'm grateful for any information.

This place, Chelsfield, seemed really nice. I was there briefly with the Ebony Horse Club for their championships. Big sunny yard, happy horses, indoor and outdoor schools.

Don't forget Chessington and Claygate.

Woodstock South is on the chessington / Claygate borders about 5 mins from Surbiton by car - direct bus link takes about 20 mins I think. You could probably walk it in 30 depending on whereabouts in surbiton you get a flat.

They do DIY, assisted and full. Year round turn out. 24/7 in the summer. 2 surfaced schools, one jumping and one dressage. The jumping one is floodlit in winter. Horse wash with hot water & solarium. Horse walker. Secure tack room and seperate personal feed store. Someone on site 24/7. Shares the site with a farrier practice - but you don't have to use them. Good hacking. Nice people (even if I do say so myself!). Mix of competative and happy hackers - always someone to go with. No nasty yard politics, great YO. PM me if you want her number.

Within about 2 mins you also have Chessington Equestrian Centre, Old Barn Stables (School livery only), Manor Farm, Bridle Road Stables and Slough Farm. I don't know who has spaces or what they charge but the all have thier strengths. It is really just what suits you and your horse. Oh - and Arbrook Farm if you want to head toward Esher / Oxshot.

CEC is a major hunting yard with dealer's horses coming off and on so lots of new faces. It also has a riding school. 2 outdoor areas I think and a very small indoor school.

Old Barn is very cheap. They only offer school livery and there is no turn out. But the owner is a real sweetie and the horses well cared for.

Manor farm has a large indoor school - but quite strict yard rules. Which is fine if they suit you. Bridle road has really nice pepole and probably the most secure tack room I have ever seen - but no surfaced or lit schools. Slough Farm is great if you're into Parelli.

Thank you all for your replies. Very much appreciated. I just noticed that I mixed up east and west in my thread name, stupid. Sorry about that.

I really need to start driving around and look at the yards you all recommended. I have to fly to Oslo for work this week. May I get in touch with you for phone numbers or addresses of the yards you mentioned when I'm back?
