Could anyone recommend a nice livery yard in West Yorkshire that is straight onto off road hacking ? Would prefer to be as close to Leeds as possible but anywhere considered but would need to be assisted to feed and turn out in the morning etc. Any recommendations would be great ! Thanks

It depends what type of yard you are looking for, if you want the type that has a website I think you will be hard pushed, there are a number of small DIY type which may be able to offer some assistance, but very few big enough to bother with a website and most of those will want to do full livery.

I'm looking for anything really - not looking for something with a website but helps if I can get numbers etc. Been round a couple of tack shops this morning but wondering if anyone has any recommendations etc.

What sort of radius are you looking at, I do think that you will struggle to find anywhere with truely off road hacking in this area, but there are places with quieter roads and access to tracks which you have to go on roads to get to.

The yard when I'm at does full livery and DIY (DIY can be assisted. It has indoor/outdoor school and shows on site.

You can hack for about 30 mins with out hiting a road.
It might be abit far for you though. (Its also quite cheap!)

PM if you want to know anything else.

I can only think of one yard but think too far from your - Wikefield Farm, near Harewood. Think most of their hacking is in Harewood Park Estate (or it used to be anyway).

[/ QUOTE ] Seem to recall that Wikefield Farm was very, very expensive too! They did have a website, but since they stopped doing comps, no idea if it's still live.

Swithens Farm in Rothwell is 5 mins from junction 30 M62, has an indoor and outdoor arena and over 300 acres which they cut the edges of so that we can hack. We have a 30 acre field, a 70 acre field and a 9 acre field plus the fields at the front of the yard all year to hack on in addition to another 12 acre field in summer, all linked together. Plus if you do go on the roads there are loads of bridlepaths to hack to. Competitions all year, use of showjumps and some little xc fences, all year seperate mare and gelding turnout, visiting instructors including a BE registered instructor and one who comes from Yorkshire Riding Centre. Full, part or DIY livery, your own tack room, full worming programme... anything else you could possibly need?
I've been there for the last 5 years and wouldn't move if you paid me.Website is www.swithensfarmlivery.com
