Hi
In my area I am limited to only a few options.
I need assisted livery as have tried to rely on sharers and it doesn't work and I work unpredictable hours.
Yard 1. Riding school, restricted turn out both summer and winter. Turned out in same sex.
Yard 2. Restricted turn out to day only in summer and winter turned out in corals in pairs.
Yard 3. Unrestricted turn out. Have own field and responsible for poo picking, fencing etc. down side that it is individual turn out and other livery a don't want to pair up. Horse can see others horses.
What would you chose

Hello, I would choose yard 3 if I were you. Reasons are that you can put your horse out whenever you like which I thinks great, there will be no arguing over poo picking with another person and there's no chance that your horse can be bullied or injured by other horses. I could go on forever. I love having my horse in his own field and he's much happier having his own space. As long as your horse can see other horses and maybe have some interaction with them over the fence then there should be no problem. Hope this helps.

I would go for yard 3 and if you work unpredictable hours - unpredictable enough that on occasion you may not be able to see your horses or do your jobs within the yards opening times (e.g. at my yard you are expected to poo pick your paddock every single day - no exceptions) I would look at paying someone to do the jobs for me rather than relying on fellow liveries or a share.

Yard 3. no question because of the unrestricted tun out not the individual because I don't like individual turnout.

My mare is on individual turnout for the first time due to needing a fatty paddock through summer. Weirdly (since she can be clingy) she loves it! I'm wondering in fact how she'll be when back to winter regime in with the other mares. She is far less bothered about others being around, it really is quite extraordinary. So don't assume that your horse won't like it I'd go for option 3 above despite going to the yard I'm on because of the herd turnout, I'm a convert and now know that as long as there is company about horses adapt and some even enjoy not being part of a herd.

One point to consider is whether your horse is herd leader, or likes to assert herself, mine isn't and is quite a gentle soul, this I think is why she enjoys her own space now, no one to move her on etc, no science behind that just my opinion on what I've seen with mine.
