Well, after the year from hell, I'm now planning for a more positive 2013. Looking like selling all but a couple of my horses (possibly even all but one depending on yard costs) and moving whatever I keep onto a livery yard near Edinburgh since it looks like I'll be moving back to that area after an 11 year break.

So, can anyone recommend any decent yards in Edinburgh vicinity? Haven't decided where I'm going to pitch myself yet, but getting horse(s) sorted my priority. Need somewhere that would be able to offer me some kind of part livery as my job nowadays doesn't give me the spare time it used to. Happy to be DIY on a weekend. Also need somewhere with decent facilities as still hope to compete as leisure riding isn't for me.

Any suggestions?

Im at Oxenfoord, and I love it. There's someone who does 'full livery' I'm sure. 2 half decent schools, tiny indoor but its there. Good hacking, hills, tracks and fields for fittening. I'm not a leisure rider but do struggle to get out. I live in Midlothian, like 5 minutes from the yard.

there is also:-

Edinburgh Equestrian
Temple, Mountskip
Tower farm (if you wanted to be close to town as possible)
Swanston has a 2 year waiting list
Pentland (only full /weekend part livery)
West Kinleith
Morton mains
Thornton
Kirkettle
Lea Farm
Springhead

off the top of my head...

Edinburgh Equestrian - nice hacking (off road), good T/O, 4 outdoor schools but all pretty bad, tiny indoor with mirrors but it is there, full set of showjumps on grass in summer, 3'3ft xc course summer, amazingly close to bypass. However, disorganised, stables aren't the best and rather scruffy! YO likes things to be done in the right way, as long as you stick to the rules you will be fine!

Tower farm - NO. It is a riding school, YO horrible, T/O horrendous, hacking a no-go, schools wet. pretty sure it has strangles at the moment.

Thornton - okay from what i have heard. RDA have a centre there, fields were always sodden when i visited.

Pentland - a bit stuffy and mega expensive and not much hacking. Schools are better though.

Meadowhead and morton mains - i think same YO as tower farm(?), one of them has a huge, nice outdoor arena but not much else.

Mountskip - is for sale, not quite sure what is happening though..

Eh Pentland is not stuffy. Im weekend staff there and it's a lovely yard, with a lovely owner and the head lass and her staff are fab. Horses get first class care and the schools are decent.

Would agree with the Tower Farm thing though, only good thing is its so close in town.

My SIL is at Wester Kinleith and loves it, and I love Oxenfoord.

There's a new yard at Ravensneuk on the outskirts of Penicuik, not sure if they do part or full livery though i'm afraid.
The lady i share with was saying good things about Whitfield today, she said the indoor was lovely

Whitfield Farm Livery is local to me and very good. Indoor and super outdoor school and nice folks (no silly people/kids/politics) with lovely YO. PM me if you want further details. I use Whitfield for the RC training that I organise, plus some of our shows are held there so there are usually a few things going on there a month with PDRC. It is about 15 mins from bypass ski slope. The down side is that you will be required to poo pick but there are folks who can pay to do that in the area if needs be. I think that is preferable to fields that are never poo picked though.

Not sure how many vacancies they have at the moment though.

There is also a newish yard near Leadburn.

Think you need to think re geography and travel times. Where are you wanting near and what radius are you willing to travel to?
