As title suggests really - just a scout to see if there are many horsey facilities/livery yards in the area?

OH and I may be relocating to this neck of the woods at the back end of this year and he has suggested it may be a good time to recommence the horse search (I heartily agree

) So any info on livery, quality of hacking, local hunts, equestrian centres, riding clubs etc all very much appreciated

ETS - Doesn't have to be immediate area just up that way on if that makes sense!

My Derbyshire geography is somewhat lacking (read crap!) but OH works close to Calton - which is the edge of the Peaks (I think!) anywhere close by will go onto the hit list for places to check out

Whereabouts would you recommend?

don't know where calton is, how close does oh want to live to work? i got a new job miles away from here but we didn't move house as the hacking was really poor north of derby!

I work in Derby and know Duffield very well it is hopeless for livery yards and hacking. It is a suburb of Derby and people move there to get children into Ecclesbourne School which is now a very large school. You pay a premium on house prices as well. Much better in South Derbyshire villages around me are Church Broughton, Foston,Etwall to name a few plenty of livery yards and hacking very big horsey areas. Good competition venues nearby Eland Lodge, Field House, Barleyfileds and Hargate Arena all within six to ten miles. Any more info needed just ask.

Thank you Cilla

They sound promising!

Apparently those are all around the 30-40 min mark from where OH works which would fit very nicely - thank you google maps and AA route planner!

Any approx prices for DIY or Part Livery?

Duffield is a bit rubbish for livery yards and hackingits too near the city. Its very expensive to buy houses but it does have a great school though.(have to say that i went there).Im around Matlock Tansley area great hacking around us Chatsworth not too far away and up onto the peaks.

I'm in Belper which is the market town just north of Duffield. It isn't the best area for horse facilities but isn't that bad, there are a few yards around. You can hack on the bridlepaths over the chevin.

The Burne Bloodhounds hunt nearby. I went out on foot with them when they met at Hazelwood which is just out the back of Duffield. The four shires, also hunt in the area with the Meynall and the high peak being within driving distance.

There are a couple of very good yards not too far away, so you might want to check them out. Duffield itself is very expensive to live due to the school catchment, by living a village or two along you can vastly cut the cost of your house. Belper, Ambergate, Wirksworth, Matlock, Hulland, Denby etc would all be cheaper, probably closer to better yards and to your OH's work.

Try googling georgie barnes for a competition yard not far away, or netherton hall, which is near carsington reservoir (which has a circular bridleway all the way around it).

Livery yards in our area are approx £35 to £40 per week this includes bedding and hay or haylage on a DIY basis. There are many good ones about and some good instructors on the doorstep.

Agree with Laura05 Matlock/Tansley area has some nice hacking. There is a yard between Duffield and Wirksworth with good facilities (indoor school, individual turnout etc). I could get details if needed as run by the daughter of a friend.
