Hello everyone - I'm new to the forums.

I'm looking at moving to the Carmarthenshire area soon and was just wondering are there a shortage of livery yards around the area? I would love to set up a livery yard for me to run along side maybe holiday cottages/lets too!! whats the best place to live around this way? Is the riding good?

your imput would be great, as although i have visited Wales lots i have no idea on the yards etc in the area! and would hate to buy 30 acres plus and find out that there are tons of yards around or lack of people wanting livery!!:)

Hi, im from Carmarthenshire.

There are loads and loads of livery yards. Hardly any of them are full.Stables are usually from £15 DIY to £70 full livery

Livery yards would be a different kettle of fish compared with holiday lets plus paddock/stabling.

For a livery yard you have to find somewhere that is close enough to a reasonable sized town to make it worth people keeping a horse there (how far do people want to travel maybe twice daily?) but also with decent trail options and preferably some sort of facilities on the yard an all weather at the very least. Wales isn't the most affluent place in the UK and you will never fill a non competition/specialist yard with full liveries unless it is very small and has an indoor etc, most people prefer/can afford DIY.

Holiday lets with facilities with horses would probably do quite well, I am sure there are lots of people who'd enjoy taking their horses with them. Loads of super places in Wales to choose from, you'd have to do your research though. The Gower is beautiful, lots of riding available. If you get in a good hunting area then people would use holiday lets in winter too.

ps. Hi Meg.
