Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any livery yards around Wantage. I am looking for either part or DIY but must have good all year round turnout and a school with lights, good hacking would be a bonus!

Having done some online research I know of Hurston Dressage and eventing but I was wondering if there was anywhere else in the area that people might know of through word of mouth?

Also, as I will be new to the area, are there any tack/feed shops that anyone can recommend?

Any other horsey information about the area would be gratefully received too!

Thanks in advance

Hurston is the only one I know in that area - lovely yard and facilities, and lovely people! Ali16 is on here. seems to be some amazing hacking around that area - and it's near Boomerang, xc course hire if that's what you're into.

Hi Charlie8879,

I live between Wantage and Newbury. I can definitely vouch for Ali and Edward, I live just down the road from them. I have lessons fairly regularly with Edward and have just bought a young horse from them. There are quite a few livery yards around, but it really depends on the price/smartness that you are looking for. My friend Ami Measor takes liveries at Malthouse Equestrian Centre in Steventon. The yard is not smart, but there is an indoor school, and it would be very flexible (free of the usual politics) and Ami is a great SJ instructor and successful showjumper herself. Boomerang also has liveries, about 30 mins from Wantage and has excellent facilities (several arenas incl indoor, XC field etc). There seems to be a hub of livery yards in and around Blewbury, including Alden Farm and Silverdown. Grace Muir at HEROS may take liveries - the horses will be very well kept, but it wouldn't be like being on a traditional livery yard.

Anyway, there is a little food for thought. In terms of tack shops, we are a bit sparse. There is Woodlands in Great Shefford and Total Equestrian in Blewbury, and if you need anything ordered, I run an internet-based saddlery, so do get in touch.

There is miles and miles of hacking on the downs, free from traffic, and with stunning views!

Welcome to the area!

I used to live in Wantage.

There is also a DIY yard at Ginge v near Wantage.

Has great hacking on Ridgeway / Downs , good turnout, indoor school (odd shape), and 2 yards.

Dont have contact details but it is in Ginge village, cant miss it, indoor barn visible off road.

I used to livery at both Malthouse (fairly briefly when there were two yard owners and indoor school wars - they once divided it half!!), and for quite a while on Lockinge Estate (when Niki Ryan was there). Not many horses on Lockinge Estate now this there is only Christ and Roger doing part livery there.

Put Ginge / Lockinge into googlemaps.

Sorry also there is EJ Wicks (Fantastic!) in lambourn which is a master saddlers as well as tack shop in Lambourn about 10/15 mins outside Wantage
