Livery yards near Danbury, Essex

Hi all, am moving to Woodham Walter in the next couple of months and looking for assisted DIY (or would consider part or grass livery) for 2 horses, 1 x 16.3hh and 1 x 17.2hh. I event the former and mostly pander to the needs of the latter 🙄. I am looking for a yard that is dog friendly, with a good school, all year turnout (restricted in winter is ok), lorry parking and not massively restricted opening hours. Other than all that I'm not too demanding! Does anyone know of anywhere either near Woodham Walter or between Woodham Walter and Southend? As far west as Stock and as far east as Purleigh. Any and all suggestions very gratefully received
 
According to Google, you are only 14 minutes away from me.

There isn’t much around tbh. I really struggled. There is the yard I am leaving which is in Greenstead Green, they will have two spaces at the end of the month. DM me if you want info.

I’ve just found and will be moving to a yard in Tiptree with grass livery and arenas and hacking. But I only found it because I knew someone who knew someone…one of those.
 
Thank you but I work in Southend so would prefer south if I need to travel otherwise my commute becomes horrendous. Holybred Farm is close but I can't seem to find contact details for them. Are there are yards I should definitely avoid?

Cressing Livery. Avoid like the plague. Like it’s the last yard on earth.

Other than that I don’t know any others as contrary to popular belief I just keep my head down.
 
I used to keep my boy in that neck of the woods before I moved to Colchester. The two yards I was on have since closed. There is one that you should avoid in Danbury, I won’t name publicly but it advertises quite a lot and there is a reason for that!
 
Some biggish yards in the area that might have space for 2 horses:
- South Hill, Ingatestone Road, Stock
- Parklands Farm, Galleywood
- Chelmsford EC, Galleywood
- Runningwell EC, Rettendon
- Birketts, Bicknacre
- Church House Farm, Woodham Mortimer
- Limebrook Farm, Maldon
- Oldbury Farm, Great Wakering

There's a reasonable amount of yards in Thundersley, Rayleigh and Benfleet but I cannot for the life of me remember all of their names! In Danbury itself the only yards I can think of are Gay Bowers Farm and Holybred farm.

I've never stabled on any of those (my horse lived in Roxwell, where there are quite few yards) and it's been a few years since I lived that way on, but there'd be a bit of 'variety' there. There are TONNES of horses in Essex though, and lots of smaller private yards that may not advertise very often, so worth looking on google maps on satellite setting, driving around, or asking in the local FB groups.

Church house farm and limebrook have closed. I was at church house when it shut, loved it there :(
 
Have you tried West Bowers in Woodham Walter?
They have unusual spaces atm too.
All year turnout.
Lorry parking.
Fab hacking.
Services.
Indoor School which is basic.
Used to be unrestricted opening times.
Not sure if dogs still allowed on leads.

Other than that you could try Warren Farm, Little Baddow - small indoor school & large outdoor arena - adults only small yard but vacancies rare.

Have you spoken to Colin recently as there has been quite a few leaving as relocating but not sure if he's reducing numbers.
There's also the Apple Farm in Colam Lane/Church Road - which New Hall School have recently purchased & transforming into massive yard.
Holybread sometimes has vacancies.

Yes, he said he was trying to cut down a bit. The old apple farm sounds interesting if they're going to have liveries.
 
Fishers farm in Hockley is pretty good, I had a loan there a few years ago. Good facilities, all year turnout (back then, may have changed) and fantastic off road hacking to Hockley Woods

Edit to add: Rawreth Equestrian Centre also really nice, with sane and very sensible YO. Probably the lowest drama yard I've spent any time on yet tbh!
 
I run the waiting list for a small livery yard in Wickford/Rettendon, we do have a waiting list but welcome to add on to it as you never know.
Yard has 18 stables, single or double paddocks depending on what is available and sizes vary, all year turnout - 24/7 summer, daytimes winter, 20x40 basic menage, on site hacking round a few farming fields, lorry parking, easy laid back yard, dogs need to be on leads on the yard, children to be supervised at all times, monthly hay/straw delivery but can order in your own if preferred, on site services but again can use your own if preferred
