Livery Yards Southampton/Portsmouth/Meon Valley

One tip...when you ask a yard about the hacking...if they say good hacking then just check what they mean...I went to Durley once having been in Dorset and spoilt for hacking. I was told hacking was fantastic....it was all lanes which I did not enjoy and moved quite quickly.

I learnt a very good lesson and would ask for clarification on the type of hacking available.

Abbey Livery is near titchfield- don't know much about it but the place was nice we viewed a pony there. They have a facebook page...
We went to the Titchfield show a couple of years ago, it was such a disorganised show, classed ran massively behind, there was a big parelli demo thing going on with music absolutely blaring out which scared the crap out of a lot of the horses, people were leaving horses unattended tied to trailers, 2 escaped and ran absolute riot for ages whipping everything else into a frenzy and no one even tried to catch them. There wasn't much space by the ringside and I saw a nasty incident where a pony got kicked quite badly and needed the vet. Never again!!

abbey feeds are actually running titchfield show this year so hopefully it will be better, ive only ever been a few times but that was a good 8 years ago, and i only ever went to jump so no idea what the rest was like.

looking forward 2 this years tho :)

Hopefully they will run it better then! They had a good selection of classes when I went and it was a good location...are Abbey Feeds part of Abbey Livery? Do you know what happened to Lillywhites that used to be there? That's where we tried the pony, it was very sweet but not right for us at the time, wonder where he ended up.....

yeah abbey feeds and abbey livery are run by the same - hubby runs the shop, the farm and does deliveries, and i think wife runs the livery, but everyone helps each other

yeah parker i think lillywhites did go to netley, not sure if it still around tho...

Lily whites is no more.... Is abbey liveries again

There are a few very good part livery yards down mortimers lane in fair oak. Miles equestrian has the quickest access to good hacking, but wouldn't take long from any of them. All have good facilities and good people running them

There is a lovely yard with a lovely owner called Sue. It's a DIY yard in Hambolton (or however you spell it!) . Narrow lane to get to it. It's all DIY (with turnout if required) , american barn or ''normal'' stables, good turnout, school, tack room etc. Sue is lovely. Wasn't pricey either.

Do you mean Hambledon?? I'm a Hampshire girl now living in the Cotswolds, I remember my first gallop on the railway line ( talking 70s/80s) from a little riding school in one of the villages probably long gone now. I remember Crofton being set up, we could pay and ride around the land ( that's how poor the hacking was) I would not be there on livery now, I have heard that the atmosphere there is not good. I kept my horses near Lee-on- Solent years ago, I think it's still grazing land. We could ride on the beach but hacking was poor. Remember hacking miles and crossing the main dual carriageway to get to Titchfield for Riding and road safety test. The mill is now a pub! Does the riding club still hold a show next to Crofton in the field? Knowle used to have a livery yard. :p

Soberton is a very pretty small village at the other end of the railway from Wickham, and there are one or two yards there I believe.

Miles Equestrian in Fair Oak is a lovely yard, it's the first place I would look if I ever needed to move.

Agree you need to check out the hacking - a lot of the yards round here are on very busy roads, and I moved from one because I wanted a yard with better hacking. Hoping that we can get some nice weather at some point to take avantage of our gorgeous countryside!!

Miles equestrian has good hacking. Yard is on a private lane that ends on bridle path that goes on for miles and miles (eventually to south downs!).

I'm not at his yard, just on a DIY one on the same bridle way!
