Hi,

I’m worried I’m over paying on my horses livery
I’ve got two horses on the same yard, the first horse I pay £60 a week DIY (just hay included - I supply my own shavings, and I have use of arena)
The second horse I pay £50 a week DIY (hay and straw but no use of arena, he’s retired)
so total of £440 a month.
does that seem the normal going rate or am I paying too much?

It will depend where you are. It would be best to compare with other yards near you.
Also how much value do you hold in quality turn out, times, individual or herd etc. etc.

They are in all time at the moment, no turn out in winter due to soaking wet fields.
they get turned out in pairs, so my two get turned out on a square together

Sounds really good value to me if good quality hay and straw are included. However there are plenty of other factors involved in livery pricing, so why not look around your local area to see if you can get a better deal.

I would be happy with £50 as it includes hay and straw. As others have said, can you find out what other naerby yards are charging/offering? X

It is fairly priced but does not sound suitable for a retired horse if there is no turnout in winter, I would be looking around for somewhere else he can go and be turned out all year, full retirement livery or grass livery, you will have probably similar costs but less work and a better life for a retired horse than being in or turned out in a small square, that cannot be good for any horse let alone a retired one.
