Liveryman Mustang clippers - repair or sell them?

Hi all,

I can't work out what to do. I have some Liveryman Mustang clippers which stopped working last year. I think they got hot and then just stopped.

I spoke to Peasridge earlier and they said it is £52 to service clippers, and a repair will be more expensive but he couldn't give me an exact price as he didn't know what was wrong with them until he inspects them.

So, do I sell them on ebay, or pay to repair them? What would you do? I think they were expensive new (i'm the second owner) and they are 300w, so very heavy duty clippers. I can't decide whether to spend money on them or not.

I was thinking maybe about buying Masterclip clippers, but not sure if they will be as heavy duty as the Liverymans.

If you still need clippers then I would get them repaired. I sent some to Alan Talbot clippers in Buxton (Google or website), he is £25 plus parts to repair.
 
Or try ************ in Culmstock Devon. He is always good and stocks Liveryman Mustang spares. There are still parts available for that machine, favourite thing to go, is the capacitor, but probably well worth repairing, as it would have been probably a £350 machine when new.
 
I wonder what H and H's beef is with C L I P P E R S H A R P I find it amazing that they do not star out Alan Talbots company name from the previous post, yet I recommend them because I have dealt with them, found them to be superb and come from Devon and they are starred out...methinks must try a little test.

The Engineer - lol, love your test! Gosh, didn't realise they were that expensive new. They feel very good quality, I must say.

Flyermc - thanks for links. I am in two minds. Part of me says my old ones are so solid, I don't think brand new clippers would be built so well.

Think I may just bite the bullet and get them repaired.
 
Nice test TheEngineer! I'm really only echoing his thoughts on the capacitor. At least get a no-obligation quote from someone to repair them. Heat and them cutting out are not necessarily linked with this clipper. They do get hot as standard. I'm almost certain the head is not lubricated at the factory because whenever I see them they are bone dry. Oil and grease do not disappear without a trace! They do have a 300w motor in them to be fair. They don't help matters buy putting a branded sticker over one of the vents either. (I believe these clippers are all made in the same factory and then at least 3 clipper brands buy them a puts their stickers on them).
