Livestock worrying law update

Long overdue amendment, especially where it states that the bar for an off lead dog around livestock being considered to be under control is very high. Just put your damn dog on a lead around livestock and cut the back chat.

The bill has just passed through the Lords but isn’t on the statute book yet, I think, though that is only a matter of time.

Thanks for posting.

Under the original Act horses have always been included under the definition of Livestock. This is just an amendment so horses are still included.
I hope so, as we have regular issues in this area of hounds running amok on private equestrian property and the hunt taking absolutely no accountability for these dogs being out of control. The hounds may not be directly attacking horses, but it causes them a lot of stress. I’ve had neighbours whose horses have been injured and one who lost their elderly pony due to the stress of the hounds running through its field.

A yard owner in these parts shot rioting hounds that were on his land without permission upsetting his horses and one hound was killed. He was intially arrested but then released without charge. Another hound fron the same pack was killed the same day when trepassing on a railway line.

The hunt directors themselves are due in court over this for not taking proper care of their hounds, trial date is next year.
