My pony lives out - and due to the awful weather we've had, his usual field which has lots of natural shelter / hedges etc needs to be rested. He really can’t stay in it as it has no grass at all and he’s just knee deep in mud. Because of this I've moved him to a new paddock which has no shelter at all.
I'm looking at creating a 3 sided windbreak to help protect from the worst of the wind, but we are unable to put anything too big up which means we can't create anything with a roof. (farmer says No!!)

He’s out with one other pony and they have a round hay bale, are fed every night, have lots of treats / field licks and best of all are actually in a field with grass which is lovely a dry and well drained. There are paddocks on either side which have high trees which break the wind and his in a bit of a dip so that helps – I’m just worried about him having no where to get out of the rain / wind.

Its predicted to be dry all week and we’ll have the three sided shelter up by the weekend.

He’ll be in this field for 1 month tops hopefully and then will be moving in with another pony to a field which has lots of trees / hedges.

Do you think he’ll be ok?

Remember he is a horse! He will be absolutely fine... he has got all the good food a pony could wish for and he has company... much better to be living like a horse than to be cooped up all day every day like some horses are... dont worry!!

He will be fine

Sounds idyllic. If you were forecast torrential rain and thunderstorms it would be different.

Mine have no shelter at all really and are often out all day even in the rain (unrugged) and my friend's five horses lived out all winter on ten hectares, with no shelter or rugs all winter - even in the snow!

He will be fine and if the weather turns very wet and windy you could put a rug on to keep the wind out of the coat - I do this with mine as our summer field has no shelter to offer them when the weather is bad to keep the wet and wind off them.

Mine is moving to a field with little shelter ; a few trees at the back and she'll be living like this all year round.....I wouldn't worry

Same dilema my fence destroying tank x cob has forced me to change paddocks for a few weeks while we make repairs and reline the electric fence but now my two dont have any shelter or natural shelter. So to make me feel better my girly is double rugged

and the fence destroying (and fat) cob will get on with it. If weather gets really really bad I will have to put them back down to normal field and just pray he doesnt get through again!!!! Only one more week though.....

my very pampered semi - retired horse is living out for the first time.

very very exposed field - i had a similar wibble about him and bankrupted myself to get him a field shelter

sod doesn't use it

happy as larry double rugged
