I have eczema and have had all my life (i am now 26), i absolutely hate it. And when i get the urge to itch it is just like nothing else. It upsets me as i cant wear short sleeve topS and any sweat really stings my arms. It makes doing my horse so difficult and unbearable sometimes. Any one else suffer with this too???? :(

Yup me too it sucks, up until recently like you I wouldnt wear short sleeve tops. I was so fed up with it finally got myself sorted and went to the Drs again. Massive change in my routine!

I now take an anthistamine tablet every morning when I get up, this helps with reliefing the itching which means its not as red and angry.

After my shower in the morning I smother myself in body butter (love the smell). I always carry small bit of cream in my bag so when the itching starts I smother more on.

I have a bath most nights in Oilatum followed by smothering myself in e45 type cream from Drs, followed by a bit of steroid cream.

I have changed my washing powder to Surcare and started to wear as much cotten as possible.

Keep going back to the Drs until you find a cream/treatment that works for you. Keep your chin up hun!

Yep, and it sucks :(

I am upto the eye balls with anithistamine, and it is much better, as I have got older the symptoms are not so bad, my eye lids used to turn insideout, and get a rash ariound my throat, but it is getting better so fingers crossed for you (((( Hugs))))

Just shows our commitment I guess :D

I try to avoid anti histamines as they make me feel like I've been hit by a bus. However, if the itching etc does get unbearable then certailnly take some antihistamines. Also get yourself to the docs and get some decent cream for bad flare ups. I have some Elocon which is the latest one I've been prescribed. However, I wouldn't say nowadays I have bad eczema (I am 32) but it used to be horrendous when I was younger. I now just get flare ups.

I would suggest though to look at some of what you are eating as diet can play a part. I found milk causes me to have irritated skin so maybe, if you do have a lot of milk or dairy then consider cutting it out. I think (although could be mistaken) that eggs can also cause more irritation.

You are unlikely ro ever get rid of it and i find certain individual animals cause morse severe reactions than others.

i have never used lots of stuff in my baths (in fact I shower more than bath anyway) and as far as lotions etc go i look for oil free moisturisers as although it feels skin is dry, eczema causes a moist skin effect so i don't think oily substances being put on the skin helps. My sister uses some of that diprobase cream stuff from the docs but personally I don't like it and it feels too greasy. For my face I just use Nivea Oil Free Moisturising fluid and that seems to moisturise without irritating ( i think it contains witch hazel which helps).

It is a horrid thing to have but the more stressed you get about it the worse it gets.

I have been on a complete diet overhaul for the last year and had allergy test done. I havent eaten dairy, wheat, eggs or anything that i came up with an allergy to for over a year. It is soooooo hard. But it has helped 100%. I am also sticking witha completely natural way of dealing with it so i just use dermol 500 for washing and white soft parafin for moisturing. No steroids, steroid creams or anything like that for me!! Sometimes i feel like giving up but i wont, it just gets me down.

I am in my 40's:eek: and still suffer- although less than I used to.
I use thin vinyl gloves for stables duties, the type doctors use- not latex or that makes my eczema worse. Diprobase is ok,for an emolient but I find SYNALAR cream for the actual eczema really really helps-especially if I put it on at night and cover with plasters or bandages.
It seems to flare up for no obvious reason at times though, and then not much does help besides the one thing you shouldn't do- itch and scratch! Mine is usually better this time of year:, if you can stand exposing the red raw patches, the sun does seem to help it.
Dairy makes mine worse, but my cousin has cured her son totally by eliminating anything with orange/oranges in it.:)

I can sympathise :( have you been to see a dermatologist??? Thanlfully mine is stress induced although I cannot use products with copious amounts of citronella in and it seems straw REALLY aggrivates it.

When it does play up I have found THE BEST thing to use is a moisturiser with shea butter in, maybe this may be worth looking into??

I started taking Loratadine last year for my hay fever - did nothing for my hayfever, but my eczema cleared up and has never come back! If it makes you tired, you can take it at night, but Loratadine shouldn't do....

Have you tried Aveeno? My son suffered terribly from childhood eczema when he was very little and still gets the odd patch every now and then. I was recommended it while waiting in a queue by a complete stranger who noticed how bad his skin was and felt compelled to tell me (I am very grateful she decided to 'interfere' as I had tried oilatum and it hadn't worked and didn't want to go down the hydro cortisone route). It's reasonably pricey, but a little goes a long way.
