Hello you knowledgeable lot,
I mainly lurk but am in need of some help.
I have a 16.1hh mare who I have recently bought a Ifor Williams 510 trailer for.
Now we have had issues loading in the past in other peoples trailers but I thought with constant practice we'd get somewhere. I have previously had a natural horseman out to help with loading in a equi-trek (side load) and she traveled very happily.
On to the current issue, I have her loading beautifully every time and standing nicely in the trailer but every time I tie her up and move to put the back bar up she shoots back at speed and I just cannot get her past this point.
Recently she had a bad injury in the field and had to spend 5 days in horsepital and the loading was an issue totally, but I did trick her slightly and can't do this every time. The naughty trick was as my trailer has been set up to carry one horse with a full length breech and breast bars, and she proved to me one day she could turn round in the trailer (I know not the best thing) so I let her turn round on the day she needed to go to the vets for emergency treatment put the back bar up and turned her again and tied her up (simples).
Like I said not the most ideal ways of doing things but needs must and the vet attention was needed due to the major risk of infection.
Sorry for the long post but does anyone have any ideas I could try to get her to stop shooting back when I or anyone else puts the back bar up, she is loaded currently in a dually.
I am saving for a new trailer that I know she likes to travel in (spoilt I know) and can't warrant having a lorry (which she will load in lovely) but until that point I need to help her get past this.
Tea and bourbons for anyone that got this far.

I had a friend who had a similar problem. She eventually managed to train the horse to walk all the way into the trailer with them stood at the top of the ramp, ready to hook the back bar on asap. I know this could come with its own set of problems but it worked for her.

I can get her to load with me stood at the top of the ramp and I can slowly move the bar on the ground but the second I lift it she's back like a shot.

I had this, and many, many other loading issues with my horse. I didn't successfully load him for 3 years!! I had 3 horsemen out many times to try, they all failed. Every trick/persuasion was tried consistently. The cure? Richard Maxwell, the guy is a genius! He had him loaded with bars and ramp up in 3 hours (most of that was spent chilling inside the trailer!) He cost a few hundred £'s but I would have paid double and now see it as an investment as I haven't had ANY problems loading since, straight on, bar up, ramp up, done!

Thank you he's abit far away for me, I have used Dan Wilson with great success with the equi-trek trailer but that was like loading into a lorry for her. It might be time to call him in again as I want to get her out competing again now she's all healed up.

I live in the North East and he was happy to travel. If you have had success with other horsemen, great, they just couldn't do anything with my boy which is why I'm still so in awe of RM!
