I have a very strange horse that loads perfectly well on the yard but will not load to come home!!
It makes no difference where we go- whether it's a show, clinic or the vet the outcome is the same.
He certainly isn't scared, he just sets his neck and is off! He does give up eventually.
Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Sounds familiar. Thought I had sorted Aniseed's loading issues and she walked straight onto my new trailer in the morning a couple of weeks ago. Coming home it took me about half an hour with 8 complete strangers pushing, waving lunge lines, cajoling and even putting another horse on first before I managed to get her in. I think it may have been because I couldn't move the partition over to make it look a bit wider and I hadn't had chance to put rubber matting on the ramp so it was a bit scary. Fingers crossed I won't have a problem on Sat as I'm going to take the partition out completely.

When they do it on the way home it kind of puts a black mark on the the whole day doesn't it?!

My mare used to be very similar except it was random on whether she would load or not, home or away (Just planted feet at the bottom of the ramp and refused to move). I tinkered with some NH (even went on a clinic) and decided it wasn't for us and was seeing very little benefit, but then went back to it and with my dually halter I have to admit it has worked for us. It did take a while for it to click - my mare went backwards a hell of a lot.... but touch wood we've been okay to load ever since. (As long as we are wearing the dually halter - without it she seems to know I haven't as much control)

Yes, mine used to mostly because it was just so much more interesting wherever we were, lots to look at and new horses to spy on... very frustrating.

Only way I got her over it was to have someone hold a schooling whip behind her ( no touching, just seeing) and she went on straightaway!

Still nosey though!

My mare did this, wasnt brilliant at loading at home either but was much worse away from home. She wasnt scared just stubborn and nosy. Used to look around her stand at the bottom of the ramp and plant her feet. We had to take our trailer to car parks and places like that that were near by (just in case she didnt load i could hack home) and just try and try, i think she learnt that we had all the time in the world and she had to go on eventually. Also took her at dinner time so she was hungry and wanted her tea, used to leave the buckket at the front of the trailer or let her have a few mouthfuls the further in she came. Took a while of just putting her on for dinner and not acually taking her anywhere but now she loads like a dream. Although we still bring the trailer out at dinner time a few times a week and make her eat her dinner on there just to keep her in the routine. Sorry this was long, hope it helps.
