Beanie has recently developed a adversion to loading to the point where can't even get him to the bottom of the ramp. Well to cut a long story short after a frustrating 3 hours yesterday I have come to the conculsion that I do not have the skill or the patience to over come this problem and feel if I try and carry on myself I will make things much worse. Anyway have decide to leave it for a little while, save up some cash and get a professional in. Has anyone had any experience of Richard Maxwell or can recomend anyone to help. I am in Cheshire.

I have Major problems with loading too!! I looked into Richard Maxwell as he is local to me but in the end I have arranged for Michael Peace to come to me at the end of the month. A lot of people rave about Max but I actually would prefer my horse to go into the box without a pressure halter which is normally what he uses. Michael Peace doesn't. Plus although Maxwell is 15 mins down the road it is cheaper for me to get Michael Peace out and he is coming from Oxford!!
 
The only way I got my horse in the trailer is a pressure halter. This MUST be used properly with pressure and release. Only had to use it once now he loads with a headcollar. I used the same with my youngster and he loads a treat now.

I have a 12 year old IDxTB mare who up until three years ago would just completely freak out whenever she was asked to load, no matter how quietly we did it. If I ever did get her in the trailer, she would have a complete panic attack and literally run over anyone or anything that was in her way to get out!

I tried several people who claimed they could help, and then someoen suggested Richard Maxwell when I had given up my dream of taking her out competing! I admit, I was quite cynical because of others who had tried... but was also quite excited to watch him work too as I had heard some great things about his 'Maxwell Magic!'

He worked on the ground with hannah at first, then when he was happy that she was responding well to what he was asking, he walked her over to the trailer. I have it all on video, and in exactly three minutes he had my horse stood quietly on the trailer completely chilled out!!!

I cannot recommend him enough... he allowed me to breed from my mare, and I am now out competing her BD. I go out on my own a lot with her, she is such a sweetheart to load. My non-horsey other half loaded her on Friday for me while I was taking my competition gear off... this is not something I ever thought would be possible

can definately recommend michael peace he is brilliant my youngster has just been there. the horses all seem to fall in love with him!
 
Years ago, I took my Icelandic out and he refused to get back in the box to come home - I ended up riding him back

luckily we were only a couple of hours away. I got the Richard Maxwell Videos and pressure halter and followed his methods by working my boy with the halter until he totally understood and was calm. I then took him to the box and after 20 mins he walked calmly in and after that he has always walked straight up the ramp and loaded himself. Max's methods have changed slightly over the years, but the concept is still the same. Now, if I had a really difficult loader, I would definitely call him out - money well spent IMHO. I am sure Michael Pearce will also be excellent - I have heard very good things about him. The thing about a pressure halter is that is must never be used as a punishment - the horse puts himself under pressure, the handler doesn't.
 
I know someone who had Richard maxwell. It took him most of the day and a new pair of gloves but finally the horse loaded - he never lost his patience and it was a foul day! The horse still loads now a few years on from this
