Hi I really hope you can help me!!

In short can you travel a horse safley without a breatbar?

And heres the storey behind what Im asking: I got a horse on loan (with a view to buy) two weeks ago and I'm really struggling to load her. Her owners told me she doesnt like loading with the breastbar in place, so last we I tried to load her with the breast bar to one side. She freaked out as my mum was putting the ramp up and mum got trapped under the ramp as my horse pushed it down and went over it.

Im scared that when I load her tomorrow she will see the breastbar again and spook. Ive been practising loading her by myself just walking her through the trailer nice and calmly.

My trailer doesnt have a partition in as we have lost the pin (will try and buy one). Seeing as I normaly only have one horse travelling his has never been a problem. But because we dont have a partition we also dont have the strap that goes behind the horse.

I suppose what Im trying to say is; Is is safe to tavel a horse in a trailer without a breastbar?
I cant see why it wouldnt be but I want to check!

P.s I am going to give her owner a ring

I'm fairly sure its illegal to tow a horse without a breastbar. it certainly isn't safe, the whole point is if you have to stop quick the horse can come out the front!!!

If she's new to you and won't load, plus your mum has already got hurt, I'm hoping you are taking her back??

Thanks for your reply, feeling like a numpty completly understand why a breastbar is there now! Think I had a very stupid moment.
Going to see how things go with her, my mum shouldn't have got hurt it was a mistake on her part and although the horse shouldnt have acted up, it wasnt her fault. Hopefully her loading will improve, she is new I believe she isn't used to loading into a trailer so she should calm down as she gets used to it. And she is fitting in fairly well in all other respects :)
