When we first had our pony about 2 years ago, he always had to stand at the bottom of the ramp for a couple of minutes before condescending to go in. No problem travelling or standing in trailer - Ifor Williams 510. However we upgraded to an Equitrek and he began to not want to load at all after a few journeys. We patiently loaded him daily without actually going anywhere with reward of feed until he was going in when asked. When after a couple of weeks of resuming competitions, same problem, and after a stressful attempt to load to go to an event we borrowed an Ifor Williams and he loaded straight away. So we came to the conclusion he was one of the few that didn't like travelling backwards, bought another IW and thought problem solved. NOT SO !!!! Six months on and he is back to being difficult, loaded to go took 10 mins, but to come home 11/2 hours! We have tried everything people have suggested, other than brute force. Some tricks work for a couple of times but he soon cottons on. He does not fight, just goes into some sort of "zen" as though he is blocking everything out.

Any new ideas welcome
Thanks

Perhaps he doesn't like what happens at the other end of the journey. I'm assuming you take him competing, is he getting stressed out when he is there?

It sounds to me like he's uncomfortable while travelling which the equitrek exacerbated. Do you give him the full trailer or travel with partition?

Thanks for the replies. Not stressed when competing or PC rallies, good as gold. He travels with the partition in place, so will try without. New trailer, so tip top condition. He happily travels, doesn't sweat up or attempt to barge off ( did so in Equitrek)
We have had a camera to observe so it is just the getting in which is the issue.
