Loan agreement advice

Considering putting my little mini out on loan, possibly vtb at a later date if all parties agree
Whats the safest way to cover both loanee and loaner with regard to handing over the passport
I know the passport needs to stay with the pony but is there a way to word any agreement or to make an amendment to the passport to state the pony is on loan

You can take photocopies of all the pages, ring the passport company and let them know and state on your loan agreement that no changes are to be made to the passport bar vaccination and it must be kept safe/if it’s damaged or lost they must let you know and cover the cost of replacement.
