Loan home trouble - LONG

I'm having trouble working out how OP put horse on loan becasue couldnt afford to eat etc with having the horse, but yet is paying all livery/foot costs etc whilst it is in someone elses hands, so therefore not reducing any costs at all?!?! In the OP position, I would personally have advertised for a sharer, as you are still paying for stable etc anyway, so any sort of contribution would have been helpful.

Also, the above aside, you put the horse up with view to buy, yet were looking for another job, say you had got this job in 5 weeks time, when the horse had been brought (and you had still been paying livery etc upto purchase point) so had an income again, what would have done?! Asked for the horse back after it had been purchased!?!?!?!

The livery is paid in advance - its paid for the entire month. His feed is bought in bulk - so its bought and paid for. What I was saving on was petrol to get back and fore to see him twice a day (about 5quid a day) and obviously the horse was getting the time and attention he requires (which I couldnt give him due to interviews/jon hunting etc)
With the benefit of hindsight - yes I would have been better not to bother putting him out on loan - but that was a HUGE gamble for me to take!
And obviously once the horse was sold (if he was sold) - he was sold. That was my worry to take on - the reason I put him out on loan was for his welfare.

Ok, won't go into what should have been done or not, what is done is done, BUT I would pay loanees anything they have paid out, and that still wouldnt replace the time they have spent on him. But good luck with new job, and hope everything runs smoothly.

Wow, you seem to be getting an underserved roasting here!
You say you made it clear before they took him you might want him back at the end of a month and let them know early(asume so they diddnt spend more then they needed to for basics).
Understand why they are angry/upset and they have every right to be, but you diddnt ask them to spend any more then cost of his keep, they knew and understood that they might fall in love but that you might withdraw the offer of loan/possable sale after a few weeks. You diddnt pretend the situation was anything other then what it was so you have IMO done nothing wrong.

If it was me, I would try to borrow the cash to pay them ASAP.If you can, postdate a check/leave something of about the value as a goodwill gesture untill you can give them the cash.

PS, congrats on the new job

hipe you and your boy are very happy to be back together.

Hmmm - have offered half money up front and rest in two weeks and they have said they will get back to me. It almost feels like they are holding me to ransom LOL

Im joking to all those who havent realised it.

They sound like good honourable people and I am sure they will accept this. I think it is perfectly reasonable that they were upset with you earlier; however it sounds like they have accepted their fate now - not a lot else they can do....except perhaps smear your name around your local horse community....

Was that a scare tactic? Im not sure. If the'horse' community is so quick to judge people on the supposed bitterness of one person - then Id be quite happy NOT to be their favourite member!
Mind you Im part of the take as I find brigade not the take as Im told to find, brigade!!

Scare tactic? You mean the mention of the local horse community hearing about what has gone on? No that isn't a scare tactic, it's what happens. However once they find another horse which they can offer a caring home to, I doubt you will register in their thoughts.

Tia Id be glad for them, do you honestly think I did this all as a tactic to f*ck someone over? I mean really come off it. Its an unfortunate chain of events - which has taken everyone by suprise.

I have no worries about what anyone thinks of me - as I have stated already, if people are so quick to judge - then stuff em really!

No I don't think you did this to irritate them; I believe you intended selling them the horse at the end of a successful trial period because it suited you.....AND I can completely understand why you would choose to keep your horse in light of your new job. That isn't what I took issue with; my thoughts are of sadness for this family who took you on trust when you offered your horse to them on a "view to buy" basis. That is the part which does not lie easily with me, but then it actually has nothing to do with me and what you choose to do is your choice.

I was merely responding to your initial post which appeared slightly outrageous to me. You obviously felt that you were the one who had been wrongly done-by; I disagreed.

Anyway it doesn't matter, you'll have your horse back soon, you'll be able to afford him now you have a new job; the people WILL find another horse and that will be the end of it......however I think at least 1 person in this will have learned a number of very valuable lessons.

Tia - your right a sharer would have been a brill idea, i think i panicked a bit - showing my ignorance with loaning etc - it woul dhave been better if id done that definitely!

Perhaps it might still be something you could consider? It would give you that extra little bit of help with the horse's financial needs.

Anyway whatever happens, I certainly do not wish you anything other than happiness and I am happy that you will be getting your horse back (that was never in question; it was purely the issue of who pays for what).

Good luck.

I think you have stood your ground well throughout this post.

We live and learn. You have learnt.

Fair play to you hun and I hope that you never have to put yourself or your horse or anyone else through this again.

It's very hard when you have to make quick decisions and sometimes we realise when it is too late that maybe it is the wrong one. (I've done it a fair few times)

But hey, that is what makes us better people in the long term because we learn by mistakes and gain knowledge from experience.

Enjoy having your boy back.

putting him out on loan with the possibility of having him back after a month was downrigh rude and i have no doute that the loanees did not realise the clause stating
'you would have him back' was in relation to you TAKING him back

if it is in the contract i think its harsh to call the OP rude, its the loanees fault if they havnt read the contract correctly!

Jen, I havent read all the replies, but I think I know more about this situation than anyone else on here.

I read the contract you gave them (I witnessed you both sign it as well, and signed it myself) and you clearly stated that it was up to them to pay for medical and farriery bills. It also CLEARLY said that the contract was for a month only, and after that month the loan should be re assessed.

Now, it was their choice to get the farrier and dentist, they know perfectly well you predicament and also that there was a possible chance that you would be having him back in one months time. As I said this was CLEARLY stated in the contract. I was also there when the lady first came to see Murph and heard you discussing your problem with work and terms of the loan. SHE KNEW when she was replying to the advert that it was for a short term loan anyways!!!

You dont owe them anything Jen, a contract is a contract at the end of the day, which has been signed and witnessed therefore a valid document.

I'm just looking forward to you getting him home so he can go play with Boston!!!!!

i fully agree with you Lvrees, if a contract has been signed stating this then its not her fault, the loanees perhaps should have paid more attention when reading the contract

Just read through some of the replies!! I am utterly disgusted with the way some of you have jumped aboard your high horse (no pun intended) and blaimed Jen for this. And then to make accusations that she is not able to look after her horse!!!

Who the hell do you think you are, you obviously havent read what she has been saying, otherwise you'd know the real facts.

THE WOMAN KNEW THAT AFTER A MONTH JEN MAY HAVE HIM BACK!!! IT WAS A MONTH LONG CONTRACT!!!

Now is that any clearer???? Or are we still going to accuse her of duping and taking the people for a ride?

Sorry Jen, but I cant believe the way people have spoken to you.

I have to say that im with the loanee. You should not have put him on loan with view to buy, no one in the right mind would take a horse knowing in 3 weeks it could be going back, would they? Would you?
I have to sympathise in one aspect though, i too couldn't conjure up £100 either. To say to get an over draft or credit card is totally unrealistic. I cant get a overdraft or credit card, i only work p/t 12 hours a week work and only have a savings account. I get £350 a month for horses, i pay there £250 livery and buy all there food for the month the same day. That's £60 gone. £40 goes on farrier trims, and that's it till next month. My OH has been bankrupt for 18 months so any credit is a no no.
So i too cant just get £100, and anything that needed instant money, like a saddle fitter or a new rug, would simple have to wait.

B+J - my friends are unemployed lol poor things and the only person is my BF and he 100% thinks i should not give it to them....so he might not be the best person to ask. He's not horsey and doesnt really comprehend all this, he equated it to:
If I rented a car and decided to put a spoiler and new tyres on it, then the garage wanted it back, they wouldnt be paying me back for things I did that they didnt ask me to do...

[/ QUOTE ]

You stated above that they asked if they could do his teeth and you said yes.... if you knew they weren't due to be done, why didn't you just tell them not to have them done?
