Please can anyone give some advice?
I have a horse on loan with view to buy that has been diagnosed with chronic artheritis and deemed unfit to ride.
Due to this I am not purchasing the horse and it is being returned to its owner as per my loan contract.
The horse was in very poor condition when the loan started and I have spent an extremely large amount of time and money in getting it 300% better as I had every intention of purchasing.
The condition was picked up during vetting.
Can I get any money back? As I now have to start all over finding a new horse.
I have paid for injections to be started from scratch, dentist, etc

Do you have a contract? I would imagine that you knew when you took the horse the condition of it and if its your decision to have the treatment for him, then I would say its down to you.

No, you are not entitled to any money back. The horse was loaned so that you could see if you wanted it and you should really have had it vetted before you spent so much on it. You have obviously looked after it really well though so well done!

What did you agree with the owner?

I would imagine if you agreed to loan the horse and be responsible for its costs until the deadline for buying I can't see how you can ask for your money back.

Have I understood correctly that you started vacs, did teeth, etc. BEFORE the vetting which revealed the arthritis? If yes, there isn't much you can do now. In retrospect it would have been better to have the horse vetted first to have a clear idea of its problems and decide whether you wanted to spend money fixing them, than the other way round, but there isn't much that can be done about that now. Put it down to experience.

Good luck on finding another horse!

I would say no, you would struggle to get money.

Maybe it should be a lesson learned if you go down the LWVTB route again.
