Hi all,

some of you may have read my previous post about my horse not settling in. Well, we had some more bad days (one of which he kicked out at me) and I have decided that I am going to give him back to his owner. I feel AWFUL!!!!! I just know in my gut that we are never going to get on that well and that he is not that happy with the busy setting.

So, i'm back to square one again! Have decided that I want to join the hairy cob club though! Going to save my pennies and get me a little hairy ponio!

I know it's for the best and that he'd be happier somewhere quieter with only one person dealing with him so it's the right thing to do.

Sorry for the moan but no one here to talk to and feeling a bit glum!

I remember your post, it's very brave of you to admit you cann't do it than to just keep going and end up hating horse's. I was very nearly in this possition, not log ago and now have a hair cob!! Best thing I have ever done and don't ever look back on it, nothing better on a cold winnters night than a big hug from a hairy cob. :)

Thanks, I do feel very guilty but it's the best thing for me and the horse.

Can't wait to join the cob club ; o )

It does sound like you really have no options here but to let him go back.
He is clearly not happy and owning / looking after horses is supposed to be fun for you and it sounds like you have tried to make it work.
How long has the horse been with you?
I only ask cause i know my welsh D would take at least 2 months to settle with new people and a new home due to being mis-treated in 2 previous homes.
I do wish you lots of luck finding a new horsey friend, hairy cobs are great i love the traditionals.
Regards Teresa

Thank you : o )

Been with me for 3 months now - not long I know! But just know he's not happy.

I'll probably look for a section D - think they are lovely.

I have had to do the same thing and although it's heartbreaking, it was best for me and the horse. I now also have a hairy Welsh Sec D :D The Hairy Cob Club is definitely the best club ;)

oh, poor you! i'm sure you're making the right decision though... i hope he finds somewhere he can settle, and that you find a FABBY new one.

whereabouts are you? what are you looking for? someone on here might know of one? i know a LOVELY section D for loan (actually, i know two of them) but they're near me. x

You are all being very lovely! Thanks, I hope so too.

I'm in the Beds/Bucks area.

I am in the EXACT same situation, I had a horse on loan from a friend (debateable as to whether it's a good idea from a friend!!) and it's a long story as to how I got him (which in short is I had her other on loan for a short time, was going to be longer but then i felt she wanted him back and I knew he was better with her, so I took her other one instead which was silly because I'd never met him and didn't really think about it)

But anyway, he's going home this weekend (hopefully as i'm now having a 'mare with transport) But I think I knew he wasn't right for me almost right aweay, it's hard because he hasn't actually put a foot wrong, I just know he's not for me, and my plan had been to buy in the first place.

I'm having to re-save now (as i've spent alot) and am hoping to find a horse by the end of the summer, unlike you i'm going back to my original plans of a Thoroughbred (I don't suit cobs haha love them though!!)

I don't wanna go on becuase it's your post, but I know EXACTLY how you're feeling, I felt like I was letting the horse down, but I know it's for the best, as do you, I'm not sure if you felt the same but I spent many a sleepless night justifying sending him back, but like you i knew in my heart it was best for him (he's also living in at the moment, and he'll be 100% better living out)

Good luck with your search for a new beastie and don't feel to glum :-( you'll find yourself something amazing and all the pieces in the puzzle will fall in to place and when you have your new horse you'll know it all happened for a reason, and you'll be pleased with the reason :-) if that even makes sense

Couldn't of put it better myself! I defo had some sleepless nights, only just realised as now sleeping like a log. Hope your situation sorts itself out easily too and look forward to updates of a new neddy
: o )

Horses are expensive and meant to be enjoyable. I agree send him back and get a lovely gypsy cob - I am on my second and addicted to them, great fun, very safe and excellent temperaments. My little lad turns his hoof to everything and can jump 3'3, do dressage, showing and above all take out a novice rider or a kid for a fun hack and come back with them - and he is still only 5.
