I am taking a horse on loan and have just looked at the contract.

The VTB price is 3500 -4000 more than what the horse is actually worth according to the guy who has schooled her for a few month.

Would you talk to the owner? If yes, how without being rude?

I'm not quite sure what sort of question you are asking?
Are you planning to buy the horse after a loan period? If so, and you believe that the price is wrong, you either need to talk/negotiate with the owners or walk away.
If you are not planning to buy, I'm not sure if you should enter a Loan With View To Buy arrangement at all, regardless of the price of the horse.

If you are looking to loan the horse with a vtb, and you think they have put an over-inflated price you need to discuss it now.
Do talk it through as i assume once you sign the contract that is the price you agree to buy the horse for

Yes I am interested in buying her if we get on :-) I am don't want to pay a silly price though. The problem is that I think the owner hasn't got a clue.. She has never ridden her and only seen her about 3 times in the last year when she was with the current loaner.

Well, if you are planning to buy, you need to agree the price before the loan commences, so yes, you do need to talk to the owner.
I don't think it matters if the owner is clueless or clued up, it's their horse and they are prepared to sell it at certain price, you can try and negotiate the price, but that is all you can do.

Thats what I thought. I just know it is going to very hard because she bred her and has unrealistic ideas of what she can do and what her paces are like.

She is still a nice horse :-)

How would you try to convince her?

Just tell her that people have told you its not worth the money, and that you wouldn't buy her for that much.. Find some ads of similar horses to work out what she would be worth. Ask to bring someone more experienced to see her - like you would if you were buying without loaniing first..

I wouldn't try to convince her as such, if you really like the horse and want it, you need to be prepared for the eventuality that you will have to pay the asking price...
I would just ask if the owner is open to offers on VTB price and if so, you are prepared to pay X, if not then you need to make a decision :)

Remember, whatever you say/do, do not offend the owner by stating the horse's perceived faults :)

Try and be honest. Say something along the lines of 'I am very interested in your horse, but i feel the price you are asking is out of my reach, are you open to offers or would you be prepared to accept £XX her, only i don't want to take her on VTB loan under false pretences'
