Right, I did write a huge essay but deleted it.. will try to keep short with as much info as possible.

Got a 986kg loan horse back in 2010

2012 horse had lost weight and was starting ridden work.

A previous injury which we weren't told about caused him knee to swell and become do lame he couldn't walk

2013 after having the rest of 2012 off to recover the vet has suggested light work with some support boots.

Turns out horse can no longer be ridden all due to his weight back in 2010which made his previous injury worse and has developed a heart murmur.

Now I would love to send this horse back and have done with it. But he was got mainly for my dad who loves him and the girl that owns him no longer has anywhere to keep him. I spoke to her and she said he would have to sold if we give him back.

Horse is 25 can't be ridden and didn't winter very well this year, can't wear rugs he just takes them off can't be stabled just takes him self out any way he can. Has to be kept so he is never left alone. Can't be travel because of his heart murmur basically can't do anything is only good for meat or someone who keeps old horses as pets!

The girl who owns him lied about almost everything and I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't do it again.

He is a very sweet horse and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. he deserves to have a nice life to the end of his days.

Now I think he should be PTS but I don't want to be the one to do it but I think I might have too.

But I don't know if its the right thing to do....just say if you want to know any more info I have missed out :)

What would you do if you were in this situation??

This is a very tough decision and horrible horrible situation but I think you are making the right decision.. If it were me i would PTS.. The horse deserves to rest peacefully and it's not fair on either of you to keep him struggling through.. Best wishes!x

How could you put him down unless the owner is prepared to give him to you?

If the owner is in agreement PTS. To be honest she can't have it both ways. Either she agrees to it or she has him back her choice!!!! PTS is the kindest thing to do. Horrible decision though:(

Could you offer to buy him for £1 then let him have a couple of months with the sun on his back before quietly PTS

This what I keep thinking he is becoming more expensive with medication and supplements and I just think it would be fairer to him but then I go up and see him happy in the field with my four year old horse trying to get him to play with him standing there like a patient granddad and It just makes it harder when he looks so happy....

The owner is happy with whatever I decide I would obviously speak to her first before getting the vet out - she is happy as long as he doesn't go back to her

Well in that case, put him down then. With the huge list of things he can't do, he's just waiting for something bad to happen by the sounds of it. This way his future is assured, as you want and he wont get passed around and let-down.

If winter is hard on him and he can't be made comfortable then give him the summer, cherish and love him and then pts - if the owner agrees.

In your shoes if you don't want to keep him as a pet/companion then yes I may well pts.
