Ok so after having a long hard think about my horse situation at the moment I think I have come up with a plan.

I have the vet coming out to Aleeta next week to asess her lameness and discuss further treatments. I have decided to speak to him about turning her away for a period of time - obviously keeping up with the remedial shoeing and and physio etc. I just don't want to give her any bad experiences due to her age and in reality she is only just 4 so being 5 and then coming back into work really isn't a huge issue.
What do you guys think about this?

I have found - and been to view - a lovely yard that is about an hour from my house but that does full grass livery. This includes over winter rug changes, feed, hay, wormer, checked on twice daily, groomed twice weekley, bring in for farrier vet etc etc. And it all costs less than I will be paying at my current yard for DIY.
Now obviously I wouldn't be able to drive over to her much more than once or twice per week but I think that I could just about cope with this.

If all this works out I would then be able to have a horse on loan or loan with view to buy until Alee's problems are sorted either way.

Now my question is where do I look? I have loaned a couple of times before but actually ended up with the wrong horse as the right ones just seem to go so quickly. So if anyone knows of any horses for loan or can give me some ideas of where to look that would be great.

think it sounds like a good thing to do turning her away, she would benefit from the time off by the sounds of it.And she is young enough to do turn away now.
The livery place sounds great, and if she is not in ridden work and will be kept aswell as you say over there i would not have an issue moving my horse an hour away.
You will save money from livery and also fuel etc not having to go to do DIY everyday, and you will have alot more time on your hands to look for a loan pony.

Sounds perfect - what are you looking for? I saw a nice horse for loan the other day but can't remember where, it was from the south though

That's sounds like a great plan for you, hopefully Alee will be delighted with the change of scenery and good old Dr Green will do his job and she'll be able to come back to work next year.

Can't help with the loan horse unfortunately but try your local friday ads etc.

Happy hunting

Depending on what sort of horse you are looking to loan I might know of something. What sort of height/type etc did you have in mind and do you want to compete etc. Also where (roughly) are you in East Sussex? PM me if you prefer.

So ideally I would be looking for something over 16hh that can carry a good amount of weight. I am mainly into dressage so a horse that has the capabilities of doing lower level dressage and having lessons is essential. A horse that can pop a small jump would be an advantage. Would consider any type really as long as its sound and not a lunatic!!!

ETA: I am in Polegate East Sussex - about 30 mins from Brighton

Umm.. check all the local liveries and riding schools, tack shops.. Countrywide [usually have a fair few good adverts].. websites are okay, but i've been looking for months and months on just websites, and no decent horses have cropped up. The best way that me and my friends have found is word of mouth and local equestrian-related shops/establishments.

But if you're keen on looking on websites, friday-ad.co.uk [and the paper version].. horsemart.. horsequest (get good competition ones there).. new rider (free).. godd i know loads. Type horse loan into google.

Blow! I nearly had the perfect one for you, but she's only 15hh and not up to very much weight. What a shame, she would have been ideal and definitely not a nutter. Ho hum, will continue to think if I know of anything else.

Where abouts are you?
I have just had a reply to an email I sent from someone advertising for a sharer just up the road from me. Sounds like a nice horse too so that may work out instead of a loan.

Thats a shame. I'm not masses of weight just wouldn't suit a spindley thing with skinny legs!!!
