we have an 11 yr old event horse that evented to novice level with sucess until he was injured so had to stop. he is recovered and is back to almost full work however we dont feel it will be fair to expect him to event to that level again.
he will however be easily up to riding club level.
he is a fab hack and is easy to do other than pulling faces round feed time.
we have discussed the possibility of loaning him to some one but he would have to remain at my yard as we w want to over see his care( not interfere).
we were thinking of offering him with free diy livery as long as the loaner paid for his every day bills...hay, bedding,.shoes, insurance.etc.
its my own yard with a lovely school and great hacking but do you think any one would be interested or would having the.having to stay with us condition put people off?
thanks

I should imagine you would have your arm bitten off! I've just offered a slightly older horse that is stronger to ride and hence slightly more difficult than yours as a hack/lower level eventer and had so many quality people enquire seriously about him. It surprised me as I thought I would struggle to find anyone.

Are there no keen "helpers" at your yard who this might be a good opportunity for?

I would offer him as a share or part loan with a set monthly contribution to cover the costs you're mentioned that way you can over see everything. I'm sure there would be lots of people interested. Good luck :)

I doubt the phone will stop ringing with that offer!

My only worry would be getting someone who is flakey who will phone you up all the time asking you to turnout etc as they "can't make it to the yard" (usually = hungover) since you live onsite. But I expect you can filter them out :)

We tried this but couldnt find anyone local that was interested. I tried two away from home loans that were a disaster. Then we loaned to a college which was ok but he has to come home in holidays which is now difficult. So now he is going on lease miles away. This may seem strange but they want to buy him but I want to protect him. This way I feel at least they value him.
It is so difficult to find the right person for a talented but older horse.
Hope you find the right person
