Loan or sell?

I am going away with work for 5 months from December to April. I don't want to sell my horse, but am worried that if I loan him, there is a possibility that the loaners will suddenly not want him anymore. What do you think I should do? Loan or sell?

Will he winter out? Could you chuck him in a friend's field while you are away? Or have that as a backup plan if a loaner wanted to return him? You might have trouble finding a loaner just for the winter?

Loan with a back up? Is there a nice YO who can guarantee grass livery if things go bad, or a friend, even if he wasn't ridden you can bring him back into work when you get back?

My old riding school had 2 little cobs on working livery in winter every year as their owner didn't do winter horse care So it might be worth ringing riding schools in your area
