For those who didn't read original thread, basically my pony had been on loan to someone for two years, they suddenly tell me that it hasn't been ridden for six months and has gone "mad" wont load, rears when tacked up etc... Then, when I am trying to arrange to pick it up, they go all coy, wont answer calls or call me back, have moved pony without my knowledge etc. Anyway, finally get hold of woman, and get directions. Here is what happened next;

Arrange to collect pony and meet someone at yard to hand over tack. Found yard, no problems. No one there. Found pony in field wearing a full size headcollar that has slipped off her nose and is hanging around her neck. Pony can't get to water as trough so overgrown with brambles. I managed to "fit" headcollar. Luckily had a spare leadrope in the truck, so lead her in from field and gave her a bucket of water which she drained. Lady still not there. We loaded pony (trotted up the ramp!! so much for not loading!) lady still not there. Phone lady. She isn't coming, she is away and asked a friend to meet us, but friend can't come now either. Well, thanks for letting us know!

So, where is all her stuff?? "What stuff" Oh, the £2000 worth of tack and rugs that went with the pony to her loan home. Her passport etc. Apparently her things are in a stable. Said stable only had one rug, ripped to pieces, an exercise sheet and a numnah in.

No passport, no saddle, no other rugs.

Apparently we can go and get the rest tomorrow. Thats another 3hr round trip we have to make. If I can ever get her to answer the phone again!

On the plus side, pony has already settled in very well at her new field, and the girl who will be riding her is thrilled to bits with her.

At least you've got the pony back safe with you - that's the most important thing. Still, it must be so infuriating having to deal with people like that! Especially as they still have the passport. Hope it all gets sorted soon.

What a nightmare, i would be furious, at least pony is now in safe hands with you. It begs the question why cant people just be bloody honest and face up to things instead of making up rubbish like it sounds they have to me! Hope you get the rest of the stuff back

If you have a contract, did it list the tack etc? Well worth persuing small claims court or something if there is that much stuff! But as the others said at least you have pony, thats the main thing!

That's really sad, the loan going so wrong. Happily, people have trusted us with their precious horses and ponies - as I just have with one of ours. She isn't far away (just enough to be theirs and close enough for me to nip round) and that would be MY criteria - proximity.

However there are no guarantees. It depends on the person taking the horse and their integrity. Judge this above all and anyone prepared to keep in daily touch, encourage impromptu visits and unlimited access will care as much about the horse as you do.

I have no idea about the circumstances of the loanee and how you felt they would measure up but I can understand your anger and disappointment. Perhaps you had a little too much trust? I'm pleased your pony is home safe and has a new person to be friends with

Not sure how you stand with the equipment you sent but it doesn't sound hopeful. Maybe say you'll send your brother round with a list and the contract as he's nearer than you. Tell them not to be alarmed if he calls in while on duty - he'll be in his police car with his dog but not to worry

Yes, had proper contract with every item listed on it. I thought people had a good reputation, but sadly they seem to have not delivered on any of the promises they made. Pony was meant to be doing BSJA and hunting - I don't think she ever left their yard once. What a waste. But on the bright side pony now has a cracking home, just five mins away, with a lovely girl who seems really eager to take her time and bring pony back into work.

Not all loanees turn out this way, i have my ponio on loan and i would die before anything would happen to her, she is not mine but is treated like it she gets the best of everything and is in tip top condition, it saddens me to think that we are all tainted with the same brush because people have had a bad experience, no offence intended but if i had my horse/ponio on loan i would keep in regular contact and regular visits, i can see where you are coming from and am really glad your horse is ok but why did you give them your passport? they could change it in to there name now and you would have no rights to your pony.

i hope everything turns out ok.
