Do they work?

I am currently looking for loan or LWVTB and have called about some and seen 1 and been too late for all of them really.

I am considering putting wanted ads in horse quest and horsemart, has anyone had any success with an ad such as this or will i be wasting my money?

When i was looking to buy i got loads of phone calls but when my mum was looking to loan i didnt get any.

But ive heard Horsequest is brill for wanted adds so id try there first x

I put a loan horse wanted ad up and didn't get much response. So what I did instead is I went through all the horses on line that were for sale that fit what I was looking for. I then sent an email to the owners saying something like
"I am looking to long term loan a horse like yours, so if for some reason you have difficulty selling your lovely horse in the current bad climate, this may be another option for you."

Now I have Dancer, and she is a sweetie! It worked like a charm :-)

I guess it depends on what you after - I advertised on horsequest for an ex competition horse looking for a quieter life to hack and a few riding club activities and was inundated with people. A lot of people who actually had their horse up for sale rang as well as they would consider the loan route so I guess that also backs up Koda's story

I used Horsequest for my daughter's pony. I was very specific about what I was looking for, to the point of hilarity. Got loads of replies so it worked in that I didn't have to do the legwork. But there were usually "buts..." most of them were trying to shift their ponios and hoping I wouldn't notice if they missed out one of the crucial criteria eg "no youngsters please" generated at least 4 replies from people wanting to get rid of 4 year olds, I ask you for a child's schoolmaster! I even had one woman ring up 7 times in a week in progressive stages of desperation even though her pony was over 200 miles away when I'd specified within an hour's driving radius of home. HOWEVER, I received one reply from the kindest lady who read the ad properly and had the perfect pony for us. So it did work! And the pony is still perfect 18 months on!

I think i must have been very lucky i put a wanted add a couple of months ago on horsequest for a dressage horse and i was absolutly inundated with offers of seriously quality horses aswell!!(and im not a grand prix rider

It really worked for me as i got to sift through the not so great animals and i have ended up with the most beautifull uncomplicated horse!he honestly is a privelidge.
So i would reccomend going for it just be very specific what you are after.

I got loads of replies from the ad I put on in November! I'm STILL getting the odd reply come through now even though i thought I deleted all the ads (looks like some people saved them).

I put my age, height/weight (so no one would offer me little 13hh ponies ), experience, my facilites, and exactly what I was looking to do with said horse (dressage- no jumping, side saddling, hacking) including my arthritis so no one would offer me unbroken 4 year olds. I even put a photo of me riding so people could see that I actually could ride.

yeah defo and put one on stabletalk. I had loads of replies and have had contact with some fantastic people with lovely horses and some complete time wasters.
