As title says really.

My Mare is out for the Summer (vets have said theres a good chance it could be permanent), and I'm looking for a event horse to loan either short or long term. Is posting a Wanted Ad on somewhere like horsequest a waste of time?

Loan horses usually come about through word of mouth though don't they? :/

Advice?

I have just put my horse out on loan . It is a step of faith loaning your horse to a stranger, so here are my tips on what to put in your ad. As you are not in a position to offer a permanent home you need to 'sell' what you can do for the horse, which seems primiraly a seasons experience of eventing? ie, other things you might want to mention ..

5* home
Your track record
Good references available
Owner can visit whenever they want?

As they say, if you don't try, you don't get.

Good luck.

Could be worth an ad, but in my experience of trying to find loan horses only crazy people with unsuitable horses rang me up. I went to see a few but oh my god, some people should not have horses! Agree to include track record, what you can offer the horse, and when people ring up to give references etc.

I ended up getting my loan horses through word of mouth or from people and their horses that I already knew.

Thanks for the pointers and suggestions - really helpful. :) Were still talking it all through, so I don't know whats going to happen yet, but thanks for letting me know Morrigan_Lady, although I think you need a home for him quicker than I can give at the moment by the sounds of it. Thanks. :)

oh no whats wrong with your lovely horse?!:(
i think its worth doing an advert...nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. what i would say though is get on places like horse hunter and other sites with horses for loan and get ringing. my TB i available for loan atm and he's just really a happy hacker but my phone has been ringing off the hook about him. had a few people to see him and they all loved him so he won't be arond for long...i guess that real comp horses will move even quicker. also noticed that yeeharider has one for loan so might be worth PMing her :)
