Would never usually consider loaning a horse with view to buy, or trial. Nor would I think about asking such a question...

But do not trust anyone atm selling horses after bad experiences (not a behavioural issue, just soundness) I feel I don't dare buy anything without a trial/loan first.

Been offered a lovely little mare going to try at weekend but wouldn't mind comparing her to others. Any breed, age below 10 and height below 16.1hh is fine, but not sure where to look? Is there a particular website to find this kind of thing? Not fussed on any quirks or vices either tbh.

Also, any good sites to find ex racers straight from trainers?
Thanks in advance

Wow completely in the same situation as you!

I've found looking on facebook groups really useful (and you can find out if any of your friends know them so have a good reference about the owner if you find a horse you like)

Equineadverts.co.uk is also quite good.

It's a tricky one, I sold my boy recently and I was going bananas with the amount of folk that asked me for a loan/lwvtb/trials. I didn't know any of them from Adam and they wanted me to lend them my horse??!!

I held out and sold him to a lovely lady who tried him quite a few times and I knew her through a friend of a friend. I let her ride him as much as she wanted and waited for her livery to become available for her before she took him.

In this day and age there are so many horror stories about horses not coming back from a loan home or disappearing and even being slaughtered so I can totally understand why people don't want to loan, and I include myself there.

However, there are genuine sellers out there who really want the best for the horse they are selling, so don't be disheartened, your gut instinct should tell you when someone is genuine. Good luck x

Yep tell me about it. My mum loaned her welsh D when pregnant. Cracking and well behaved mare... Worst thing ever yet we thought we'd found a perfect loan home so after that, decided to never do it again.

no matter how perfect a horse was, still wouldn't consider letting him/her go out on trial... So I guess I'm asking a lot from someone when I wouldn't even dream of doing it myself. But unless a horse I or a close friend have known all their life, just can't risk anything atm :/

Yeah, its quite a big ask, but I did that once with a friend who was loaning out her pony as she was moving onto horses and I loaned her and ended up buying her, I would ask around, its easier to loan from people you know or know of through a friend.

Why not try a dealer? they dont do trials as such, but most will do a period of grace where you can take the horse back and try another if it proves to be unsuitable? usual term is about three months. I never bother with private sellers anymore as ive found a fab dealer where I can tell her what i want and she pulls out 5-7 horses for me to see. and if she doesnt have anything she will find it.

i have a welsh section d mare 5 years old. we broke her in just before christmas and shes really come along! pm if your interested! 14.2 - 14.1. i live in north devon!

I have one,the cob in my avatar however although forward going is certainly not an exracehorse lol

Some sellers will consider this and if they do then that gives me more confidence in them tbh. I had mine on 4 week trial but I kept her at sellers yard which I think works better for all involved. She was settled. They kept an eye on her. It worked as I picked her up last weekend :)
