loaned horse sold within days - dispute on ownership

I do have to admit here

, that although I agreed with GTF earlier under the assumption that since you loaned the horse out, you may prefer to not have him around, if you do, which in light of your further post seems to be the case, I would actually have no hesitation with breaking and entering to get any of my horses back! Mine are all registered stock though, so I DO have proof of ownership as I hold their registration papers in my name along with all of their "bills of sale" and passports. I would be willing to risk a fine for B&E to get my animal back. I do, however, feel sorry for the poor buyers - however not bad enough to let them keep MY animal.

*Disclaimer* I know you should not do this - I am just saying that I would.

Thanks for advice, especially Toby.

Latest owner has received full reimbursement from loan lady and is denying having ever purchased the horse. This means the horse is now back with loan lady, and we continue to dispute ownership.

Police have told loan lady she must not move the horse from the yard. Livery fees have been paid a month in advance and only one week left now, so I don't know who will pay for the horse's keep next month.

We have received nasty telephone calls from the loan family, logged as malicious communication and the police have told us not to have any contact with the loan family. The loan family are prepared to give the horse back if all their expenses are reimbursed. Most of the expenses are transporting the horse to them.

A 'payment in protest' might seem the best way forward, even though we would be smarting with the injustice of it. However, the police have advised not to pay them anything.

What a mess!
