My 9yr old 14.2 is a perfect companion, and I am looking to loan him out for that purpose as he cannot be ridden any more. But I have been advised by a friend that due to his height I am very unlikely to find any takers. He is of course barefoot and lives out, perfect manners with both people and other animals.
All advice appreiciated - thanks xx

hhhmmmmmmmmm It can be hard to find a genuine home for a companion, be very cautious! If he isn't a lammie and well within himself you may be fine.

I will absolutley. No, he's not lammie, he's a beautiful lightweight anglo arab, and he has a bony growth on his hock that makes it stiff, which affects his back which means he cant be ridden. He doesnt need any medication at all. I do so want to find a good home for him. He's my best mate.

xx

I will do thanks for that. I would have a contract drawn up stating he musnt be ridden or lunged, and also would drop a few 'suprise visits' on them - cheeky maybe but if theyve got nothing to hide..

Definitely. I have 2 ridden horses, and keep another as a companion. We are on our second companion now. The first one went back to his owner after 3 years when she bought her own farm.
Our criteria was something non laminitic, preferably a gelding that didnt need any ridden work. We avoided anything under 14hh because of laminitus fears.

I found when I was trying to loan my 14.3 that the 3 people who were interested all lost interest as soon as I said I have found that her lameness wasn't effected by Bute or any form of drugs, she remained lame. They then didn't contact me again having apparently been very very interested ...... so my advice would be to drop something like that into conversation because even though he has an obvious growth, people do still manage to move horses on to someone who doesn't know any better. If he does go sound with drugs don't tell him that - lie, say the opposite - then when he is settled you can come clean if necessary!

Good luck, I was so worried when I was trying to loan Lu and only relaxed because in the end I didn't have to. It's a scary world out there for those that care.

please pm me, i know of someone looking for "experienced loan home offered to no laminitic pony" etc etc in uckfield area if that is any good to you? be quick tho i am sure this offer wil get snapped up. good luck
