i need to loan my horse out...i really can't afford two of them and also don't have the time (or if i'm honest inclination) to ride two after being at work all day...he's a 14 year old ex racer, great happy hacker for a confident rider...but he's not really been in work for 6 months and i don't have a saddle to send with him...do you think someone would still be interested?! it would be a permananet home i'd be after...
 
Someone might be - but that saddle issue would put me off as a loaner - you are looking at >£2oo to get a saddle, even a synthetic, so for a loaner I think that alone might put me off. Could you get a second hand synthetic to go with him - something comfy but cheap?

I wouldn't mind loanng a horse out of work on the strict proviso that he was safe (references) and that the owner would take him back if he proved too much for me.
 
I am sure someone would take him on from you.
There are a lot of people out there at the mo offering good homes to horses, but just haven't got the money to buy.Good luck

well the thing is he has a saddle...but its a 1.5k albion kontact so don't really want it going out of sight...

Yikes, yeah I can understand that!

I'd just try to save up and get a cheapo saddle before he goes, a second hand leather flocked to fit wouldn't cost too much? x
 
I'd be tempted to get him fitted with a 2nd hand or synthetic saddle before putting him up for loan. Other than that I reckon you will have no probems finding a good loan home for him! BTW how's your gorgous youngster doing?
 
Im sure someone would love him. I have two out on loan and the ppl are perfect.

I would be very concerned if someone said they wouldnt loan him if he didnt come with a saddle. Wintecs are cheap enough!
 
We're looking for a RC all rounder to loan at the mo. If he could be ridden at a viewing but you didn't want to send the tack with him I'd be OK with that and would be prepared to buy him a saddle. Probs won't put serious loaners off.
 
What if he turned out unsuitable after a month or two - loaner would be stuck with a saddle they didn't need.

I think when you loan a horse you would expect it to come with tack.

In that vein I would be concerned if his owner said the same - if you put it down to costs both parties should be happy to fork out for the saddle...
 
It would put me off especially as so many loan agreements go wrong. I'd be thinking what if I go to the trouble of buying a saddle, paying a saddle fitter to make sure it fit then the horse only a few months later be taken off me...

Just curious though why don't you sell rather than permanent loan?
 
can i butt in here for 2 secs, forget the loaner forking out for a saddle what if they decided to get a saddle "that will do" and give him back problems? i would be getting him a saddle that fits for your piece of mind.
 
If it helps, Ive just loaned an exracer, who didnt have a saddle, he is on a perm loan so I didnt mind kitting him out and I picked up a second hand wintec for him no trouble. I think a serious loaner wouldnt mind. Hope you find him a great home soon

This was exactly my thought!
I would be happier getting him a saddle first and at least you know it will fit him.
Had very bad loan experiences myself so go in with eyes wide open!!
 
i might see what i can get on ebay, got a saddle to sell (his old one in fact) so might have some funds for a cheapy synthetic....
would rather do a loan..he's very special to me (my first horse) so he always got a home if he needs one with me, i'd just like him to have some fun with someone....

When Ella came to me she didn't have a saddle. I got my saddle fitter out and she found us a lovely inexpensive second-hand leather saddle that fitted Ella like a glove. Not all loaners are reluctant to spend on their/your horses !
