loaning a horse?

I think I have it pretty good. 40 quid a week, part loan. Owner uses it for an hour on sat and half hour sun am but will swap if I want to compete. Everything included shoes, worming the lot. Is on part livery so I just do eves. I ride 6 days a week.
Downside is it's not an easy ride...bravery required sometimes :D
On and the tack is not great so had to get my own and sort out sweet itch meds

I think it depends on how much the livery is to start with.
If you're looking for £80/£90 a week and the livery is only £100 a week then you're probably being a bit unreasonable, however if the livery is £170 a week and you are including everything except competition fees (assuming you are allowing that) then it's quite reasonable.
There are such large variations for livery it's difficult to compare (I'm on full livery for £70 per week but I buy my own shavings, yard about 3miles from us is £140 per week).

There are people on advertising on Horsequest for horses on loan, could they possibly be an idea to contact to see if a part loan on a good horse would be considered, if they are in the area and are aware of what livery prices are in the area they may view that price each week as being a bit more reasonable?

£50 a week is much better.

I realise Geography comes into play a bit but what you were originally asking was more expensive that keeping my own!
It's difficult with loaning, people want something for nothing so you've really got to make it worth their while.

Good luck! x

Another question you have to ask is why are you looking for someone to share your horse.
If it's for financial reasons (lets face it we all have these in some sort of shape/form) personally I would be happy to take 3 days a week riding a horse at half the livery costs etc.
If you are looking for a sharer because of lack of time you could be a bit more flexible over the cost, I would still be looking for some sort of financial input from the other party (even if just too put off the people who want something for nothing), the problem being if its a good enough horse, keeping it at the same yard and having to share may just put off some of the better riders without a horse, or it could attract a good amateur that doesn't have the money/time for a full time horse.
I'm lucky in that I don't have the time/inclination to ride mine any more but I've had her 16 years, she'll be 24yo in May and has Cushings, I'm afraid I'm one of these controlling owners that wouldn't let her leave the yard, but I'm quite happy for the kids to (attempt) to ride her and I'm not looking for money, but I know all the kids that are on the yard and I'm happy with this arrangement.
