Loaning From The Blue Cross

Hello!

Am looking into loaning a lovely Dutch Warmblood from the Blue Cross at the moment and wondered if anyone had loaned a horse from them and what their experiences were? Is there anything more I should be aware of other than whats on their website?

We loaned a cleveland bay cross from them years ago. He was 22 and they persuaded us to take his long term companion too, which was a donkey - woo! Horse was ridden for about 4-6 years I think, by my mum and then me before he was fully retired.

We had them both for 14 years, horse was 36 when he passed away (donkey went a few months before, although no idea of age - just ancient!!)

The Blue Cross were very good, came and checked them once a year, and were generally nice and helpful

I am only 40 miles from him and he sounds pretty much ideal, so am within the catchment area so fingers crossed I am what they are looking for for him!!!

Are you talking about Sam? He is really lovely, one of our girls is trying him ATM too.

We are 5 mins from the Blue Cross and 3 of our liveries work there and 2 of our horses are BC horses. You just need to be able to ride well, care for horses well, keep them very well, be aware that you will have to endure home checks at regular intervals. It is damn hard to get a horse from there unless you have lots and lots of enthusiasm - one girl used to work there (with the horses, riding etc) and has had to undergo another riding check to take on a horse she has been sharing for the last year! They are thorough, but for the right horse it is worth it!

i did work experience at the blue cross a couple of weeks ago. i have been pestering my dad to get him for me. I fell in love with him the minute i saw him. He is gorgeous and well worth a visit. He would do really well in a coloured class as he is very well marked. All i would say is that when i watched him working, he looks like he needs a good rider, but his paces are gorgous and it was the first time he had jumped for a while and looks like has a huge potential, good luck. He will do the new owners proud.
