Hi

I will be going to university in September and think I am going to have to loan out my horse, since I will not be working and will not have the time to give him the attention he needs and deserves. However I am really worried about looking for a loan home and as have seen the stories on here about loans going badly and wondered if people have good experiences too?

Also I wasn't sure if I'd actually find someone to loan my horse to, as he is 14.2 and only 6 still. He doesn't have a nasty bone in his body but is babyish at times. Would I find it difficult finding him a home?

Another option I could have is a sharer as I will be living at home and comuting, I would most likely need a sharer for 4 days a week, is this a better option?

Thanks for any advice

I'd get a sharer - not loan.

You'll be suprised just how much time you do have - even when you're at university.

I think I will try and get a sharer, where is the best place to advertise? Also does anyone know how much sharers usually contribute, to costs?

I would also get a sharer. Loans can work out well in lots of cases, but unfortunately, they can also go horribly wrong. If you do decide to loan him out, then you must get a contract drawn up (BHS loan agreement) and you must also check your horse regularly and be prepared to have him back at a moments notice if need be.
If I were you, I'd definitely go for a sharer, or otherwise put him on full loan to stay at current yard where you can keep a strict eye on him.
I loaned my mare out for a short time and will never loan another horse out. But a friend of mine loans a horse and he couldn't want for a better home.

If you could I would get a sharer.

If you really have to full loan, have you thought about calling the DC of your local pony club and finding out if they know any good members looking for a pony?
