Hello,

Does anyone have any suggestions or contacts for where to advertise broodmares for loan?

I have two well bred dressage mares that have both sadly sustained injuries and it seems a waste to have them as field ornaments. They are both smaller mares (15.2 & 15.3) so might suit a breeder specialising in small horses or even ponies.

I'd prefer to loan them out or loan with a view to purchase. Not having any contacts in the breeding world I'm struggling to know where to start with advertising.

Many thanks.

How old are they and why did they injure themselves?

One is 10 (2007) Don Ricoss x Odysseus - she was operated on for a longitudinal tendon tear caused by a yard accident but is not ridden sound.

The other is 8 (2009) Wynton x Gribaldi - she had a bone scan which revealed hot spots on SI and hind suspensory. I'd rather find her a breeding home now than persevere with trying to get sound as prognosis for long term soundness isn't great.

emm.... 8 year old who can't remain sound definitely doesn't want to be bred from - why would anyone want to breed from something thats not sound?
The accident one I can understand more.

This is why I hate forums!! As per the vet report it is impossible to say which is the primary injury - the SI could have been from a field injury (horse slid under a fence) resulting in suspensory strain. The mare has fabulous breeding, paces, temperament and work ethic.

I'm asking for suggestions on who might be interested in loaning smaller broodmares - it is then up to them if they wish to breed when they have seen the mares and discussed further.

The thing about it is breeding, paces, temperament and work ethic mean nothing if they can't stay sound. COULD have been an injury, or could have been something in the mare. No reason to hate on forums.

My first port of call would be to ask the vet if there is any chance a full term pregnancy would aggravate either of their injuries. Personally i wouldn't feel comfortable breeding from a mare with a SI injury in case it results in a lack of ability to foal naturally or to term due to pain.

This has been discussed at length with my vet hence my original post asking for suggestions of breeders possibly looking for small dressage broodmares. Thank you.
