just after some good advice really - i have a wonderful horse who is very capable - jumps for pleasure etc but really is too much for me - i.e i don't jump and i'm only confident to hack in company ( there's a good reason for this but it's too long winded to go into here ) I have a very keen teenager who takes him indoor jumping and lessons etc but i'm not really getting the pleasure out of him . He's got a fantastic temp and is easy to do , so the question is , should i sell him and risk losing a good'en or should i loan him and then enjoy him when he's older. I could do with the loan of a confidence giver but they seem as rare as hens teeth? I don't want to be without a horse as i love being involved . Is there such a thing as a loan - swap? Maybe someone has an older horse that is looking for a quieter life they just want to loan in exchange for a younger model , and how/where would I place this sort of Ad - sorry this has turned into a bit of a ramble...
 
Could you not part loan your horse to this person and carry on hacking him out in company and doing some flat work yourself?
 
Not really as this young lady also has her own horse and is off to Uni in sept , she only rides him once or twice a week and it's not really enough.
 
I would sell him to someone that will enjoy him more, and get yourself that suits you more. Its no big deal - he's just not the right horse for you, find him a super home, and then give something else a good home yourself!
 
In full agreement with Honey08. I am doing this myself at the moment. After struggling with a horse who is just too much for me nowadays, I have made the sad decision to sell him. Like Honey says you can then get something steadier which you will be able to enjoy and your horse can have a whizzier rider, which he in turn will enjoy more. Mind you mine is on Horsemart, over 700 hits and only 1 call and he's beautiful and not overpriced. Good luck:)
 
I have seen adverts for a swap (when I was looking for a loaner). You might find someone who wants to swap their older, steadier horse for your younger wizzier one for a med/long term loan. Why not try an ad for that, before you burn your bridges and sell him?? Don't know which publications would be best to advertise (any and all!!) but I would start with a card in the local tack shops.
