Loaning?

My horse is coming back from loan and we were discussing who should pay for transport.

I have always paid/delt with transport when I loaned a horse as I saw it as getting a free horse from the owners however someone pointed out to me that by loaning their horse you were doing them a service so they should pay. I had never thought about it like that till now and was wondering what the norm was?

i paid for my mare to go out on loan, would expect the loaner to pay to send her back, unless i terminated the contract in which case it would be my responsibility (although i have my own trailer and she has no transport so i would just go and pick her up in this case)

I would pay if I ended it obviously but if loaner ended it then would personally put responsibility on them.
