Loans and vets fees and routine costs - whom pays?

Could you have multiple part loan ageements for the various people who could put him to good use. A clear set of rules, who is doing what on which days and muzzle requirements etc. A lesson with a safe kids pony for half an hour I guess must be £10 so you could ask for say £8 a day? The you can use the cash to keep him and sort out his medical issues.
I doesn't sound like your going to full loan for a year or so as you want to get him right first so some part loan/ sharers to help with the work/ costs in that first year might work.

As others have said loaners typically pay all costs, but as an owner of a horse on loan I keep the insurance in my name and the loaner pays me - and she pays the excess - to be sure she's not calling the vet every five mins!
Given his current potential medical issues will you be able to get the insurance cover you want? I guess at a very low purchase price the insurance co won't want a vetting but if you claim for lami type issues in the first few months will they pay up?

I'm sure you know but grassing is growing like it's spring here so the sooner you can get him off a big field probably the better - but I'm sure you know that! Is he close enough to be lead to yours?

That is my problem.... if it were a normal winter I would not be happy about his weight but would wait a few more weeks..... but this is not normal ! and now we have decided to have him I want him off this field yesterday ! but I have to wait for hubby to organise his collection - or delivery - I do not want to leave him there another day....but it is difficult when you are out of control !

Would you insure a 12hh kids pony?

YES! I have a shetland off on loan at the mo and when I had her she wasn't insured but I asked that the loners did and thank god they did as it turned out she has arthritis and if used a lot needs joint injections - that would have been costly if not insured.

I have a 16.3 idxtb on full loan.
I pay for everything.
He is insured, and this is under my name, although insurance company have owners details to assure her that he is insured. I'm assuming they would notify her if insurance was cancelled, not that I will cancel his insurance!

He has a pre existing condition (had a ligament op) for which I pay up to certain amount and the owner covers any amount over this. She also has decision of what treatment he should receive on this leg. Although any treatment he should need anywhere I would obviously seek approval if not urgent.

I would insure any horse I owned or loaned, whether a Shetland or a grade a show jumper.

Is there someone else that could help you out? does your YO have transport? how far has he got to come? would a local transport company do it for some good free publicity helping with a 'rescue'?
I'm guessing his current owners don't have any way to deliver him to you?

I am waiting to discuss at length with hubby when he gets home - I almost feel like saying if he isnt here by Tuesday then forget it - I certainly do not want to take a laminitic on !
