ash decided she wanted to try a bit of inhand showing with otto, so a month or so ago entered him in the SMALL local showing show. last week decided to go to towerlands on the saturday and we didnt get home until 6ish so otto didnt get bathed trimmed or anything and ash never had any clean jodhs etc plus her jacket doesnt look like its ever seen a washing machine (it will when i get my hands on it!) so all in all not expecting great results from the pair but we were only going for a bit of fun.
he came 4th out of 4 in the inhand hunter, the judge never gave any feedback which i think ash was a little disappointed with as people are always telling her to do workers etc with him. she came out of the ring and said how boring was that ? otto was bored and couldnt figure out why she was leading him around a field and not on his back and why did he have to run along side her etc etc.she didnt even bother going in the inhand riding club horse as in ashes words , there all thoroughbreds,im not going in there! lol. then she came last in the condition and turnout out of 15 , otto isnt in the greatest condition but there were some very fat cobs in the class who were placed etc.the judge hadnt judged for 10 years and my friend who knows her said she never judged 10 years ago either and wasnt even a horsey person 10 years ago so dont know what was going on there lol. a friend of ours who has this lovely belgium warmblood ,out of fernando (i think thats who peter said it was anyway ,means nothing to me but suppose to have been a top dressage horse ) anyway the horse is 23 yrs the rider 61 and a laugh a minute. ferdi and otto look quite similar and we came to the conclusion that judge didnt like our particular stamp of horse . peter went in a few classes and was always placed last with ferdi . at one point i said to peter just go in, get your last place rosette and come back out lol. the funniest thing had to be when the judge said to peter she would like to see him showjump ferdi as she didnt think he could jump! well that was hilarious as id challenge anyone to find a trophy in our area without ferdis name on it! he wins everything and has done for the last 13 years. he really is unbeatable ,unless peter cocks up!
from my vantage point in the lorry i watched a few classes going on in ring one and played spot the pothunter (this isnt a pothunting rant by the way ) there was the ridden hunter won by a stunning finely built steel grey beastie...when asked by the judge what she did with her horse the reply was affiliated dressage..then there was the local county level showing person who had 4 people descend on her horse armed with cloths etc between her classes . the thing that really annoyed me about her was the way she looked down her nose at all the other competitors, she just had this really smug 'im better than the rest of you' type look. i said to peters wife, now isnt that a face you'd just like to smack ?! i was surprised to see the pothunters as this show is held in one field which also holds the lorries and really is a small show, they even advertise it as small! lol . one thing that did confuse me was that there was a 3yr old in the inhand ridingclub horse, can a 3 yr old actually be classed as a riding club horse ?
anyway think ash and peter have decided to stick to what they are good at and give showing a miss. we did try and convince peter that ferdi would love to do the gymkhana but he wasnt having any of it. his wife thought it was a good idea though! ash was going to do some races on otto (in a snaffle ) but couldnt be bothered to wait that long. charlie did the lead rein races on tinkerbelle, tinks had never done anything like that before and unfortunately it blew her brain, she went up vertical (and still only reached my shoulders) during the mug race and ash had to pull charlie off backwards. then in the ride and run she was in the lead (beating a 15 hander next to her in the process!) then she started to veer off to the left and being so little i had nothing to ram my elbow into so had to go with her, she ran past one of the bending poles which caught charlies knee and pulled him off and ash then let go of him so he hit the deck rather hard and grazed his back. didnt think he was going to get back on but he did and said i dont want to go that fast again! lol. the rest of the races we just walked and she calmed right down and charlie did win a 3rd & 4th rosette. the photographer got a pic of him falling off and later came to the lorry and asked if he could use it on his website to which i agreed he could so he gave us the photo for free and little charlie is dead proud of his first professional picture!! lol (charlie is only 4 )
all in all we had a good day and a brilliant laugh ,our horses may be cack in the showring but we know what they can do in the sj ring so we dont really care lol.
