Hi All

I am looking to show my boy next year and possibly this winter. Just local level and go from there I just wanted to know what class we would be suited for.

He is 14.2 we believe he is welsh / arab.

Thanks guys.

The show I am in on him is our yard show, so not in a ridden horse / working hunter or anything like that. I have never shown in my life so I don't actually know what I am doing.

Your turnout is fine for local level a navy velvet hat would look better but the one you have is totally acceptable for that level, horse is turned out well just loose the flash part of the noseband, you could do riding pony or part bred classes, riding club pony you are just required to jump a small jump, some local shows vary the height restrictions some may say for riding horse classes 14.2 and above so then you could do riding horse rather than the pony classes. Good luck let us know how you get on. Oh and meant to say cut the feathers off his legs looks much neater for showing.

Thank you. My tweed is a green tweed. I assume that was correct as everybody in the class had green tweed.

Riding pony/horse would be good, more then happy to do some jumps although that is where we will need to do more schooling if doing it without a flash. He gets so excited he just opens his mouth and tries to run off (currently working on this). He isn't in any pain as I have had him fully checked and saddle fitted, it is a bad habit from his previous home.

I had never thought of cutting his feathers has they are so small, but I will after winter. I will do, I think jumping is his area as he loves it, but I want to do a bit of everything.

We did fairly well in the yard show a 2nd in turnout, 3rd in best ridden and 1st in the small jumps (pictured).

Well I would definitely do riding club horse and maybe try some working Hunter classes you can keep the flash for those I think and martingales are okay too, green or brown tweed is fine for showing, I only trim the feathers in the summer for shows anyway mine don't have much but it just gives a neater appearance, you did really well at the last show you can sometimes find the odd one in winter that is in doors they make good practice for the summer ones:)

I had considered working hunter. I am hoping I will be able to take the flash off soon just need to do a bit more schooling but we are getting there! Only had him a few months (July) and have been taking things slowish.

I am going to a local Macmillan show on sat, so I will have a good nosey at the classes. I'm not taking D, but helping a friend With hers.

Don't know much about Showing, but some of our local riding clubs do a "Winter woollies" or Christmas show, so might be a chance to get him out over winter if yours do similar! :)

I know my local (hacking distance) one doesn't. But some of the ones a little further a field may. I will have a look and see if anyone on the yard with a trailer wants to go. :) hopefully next winter I won't be restricted with no trailer!
