Just interested to know a little bit more about this and your stories :)
Particularly if anyone has a pony that has got this after laminitis!

i have a 2 yr old 3/4 tb gelding who first locked up in the field as a yearling , last winter he locked up every morning after being in overnight , we were unable to free it by backing him up , this summer he has repeatedly locked up on his near hind sometimes for hours at a time , he just hops along on 3 legs , this winter we aim to keep him living out

Forgot to say, my mares a 7yo welsh a. Shes never had any problems before this june when she was box rested with laminitis, since then shes been very mildly lame on and off in that area and taking very short strides with that leg and holding it back alot. Shes a bit hot/swollen in that area but that comes and goes and she keeps stretching that leg right back. :o

Upward fixation of the Patella is particularly common in young horses or horses who have experienced dramatic weight loss. Young horses usually grow out of it :)

My competition mare suddenly developed it one day when we brought her in from the field. She was 8 and in full fitness so bucked the trend... the condition got worse and worse (even with the prescribed working pattern by the vet) and 5 times after 23 days of working her it would lock again and reached the point where she couldn't unlock it; we had the operation to cut the medial ligament. Without wanting to being doom and gloom, she never recovered and developed persistent lameness and was PTS :(
